Case Closed
Case Closed, known as Meitantei Conan (名探偵コナン?, lit. Great Detective Conan, officially translated as Detective Conan) in Japan, is a Japanese detective manga series written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. The series is serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday since February 2, 1994, and has been collected in 73 tankōbon volumes as of September 2011. Due to legal considerations with the name Detective Conan, the English language release was renamed Case Closed.[1] The story follows the adventures of Jimmy Kudo, a prodigious young detective who was inadvertently transformed into a child after being poisoned.Since its publication, Case Closed has spawned a substantial media franchise. The manga has been adapted into an ongoing animated television series by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation and TMS Entertainment; the animated series has reached its twentieth season. The series has spawned three original video animation series, fifteen animated feature films, three live action dramas, one live action series, numerous video games, and many types of Case Closed-related merchandise. A two-hour television special titled Lupin the 3rd vs Detective Conan was aired on March 27, 2009, and featured a crossover with the series Lupin III.
Funimation Entertainment licensed the anime series for North American broadcast in 2003 under the name Case Closed with the characters given Americanized names. The anime premiered on Cartoon Network as part of their Adult Swim programming block and was discontinued due to low ratings. The first six films were released on Region 1 DVD in North America. Viz Media later licensed the manga series for English-language publication in North America and used Funimation's renamed title and cast. As of July 2011, 39 volumes have been published by Viz Media.
Compilation volumes of the manga have sold more than 120 million copies in Japan. In 2001, the manga was awarded 46th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōnen category. The anime adaptation has been well received and ranked in the top twenty in Animage's polls between 1996 and 2001. In the Japanese TV anime ranking, Case Closed often ranked in the top six. Both manga and anime have had positive response from critics for its plot and cases.
Genre
Great Detective Conan is written in the classic detective genre, with classic layout of the murders in the house, and there are countless cases suspect. Covers the way the case was argued solving very typical of the classic text adventure.Plot
Jimmy Kudo is a 17-year-old high school prodigy who frequently helps the police to solve cases. During an investigation, he is attacked by two criminals, codenamed Gin and Vodka, from the syndicate called the Black Organization. They force him to ingest an experimental poison, APTX 4869, which is supposed to kill him, and leave him to die. A rare side-effect of the poison, however, transforms Kudo's body into that of a child instead of killing him.Adopting the pseudonym Conan Edogawa, Kudo hides his identity to investigate the Black Organization. He intends to pretend to be a child until he can find enough evidence to apprehend the syndicate, after which he can then safely find and administer a cure for his current condition. Edogawa enrolls at Teitan elementary school and forms the Junior Detective League with three other children in his class: Amy Yoshida, Mitch Tsuburaya, and George Kojima. To further cover up his activities, he moves in with his childhood friend Rachel Moore, whose father, Richard, works as a private investigator. Kudo continues to solve criminal cases as Conan, but usually poses as Richard Moore with the help of special gadgets invented by his neighbor and friend, Hiroshi Agasa.
Shiho Miyano, a member of the Black Organization and creator of APTX 4869, tries to leave the syndicate after her sister's murder, but is held captive by them. She attempts to commit suicide by ingesting APTX 4869; however, like Kudo, she is transformed into a child. She manages to escape and enrolls in Conan's school under the pseudonym, Anita Hailey. She joins the Junior Detective League and assists Conan in his investigations on the Black Organization. Conan's quest has led him to help the FBI to plant a CIA agent, Kir, inside the Black Organization as an undercover spy.
In 2007, Aoyama hinted he had the ending planned out but he has no intention of ending the series yet.

Episode 1132: Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya's Detective Notes 3
Scenario: Mitsuhiko, Ayumi, and Genta happened to witness a quarrel taking place in front of an elderly actor selection venue, where two aged retirees, who were named Makio Yuida and Kozo Yuida respectively, were involved. To ascertain further details, the three of them from the Detective Boys visited Kozo and learned the fact that Kozo was chosen to be the elderly actor immediately, which aroused Mistuhiko some Sherlock Holmes "canon" which was related to The Red-Headed League short story. Accordingly, he suspected that Kozo might be drawn into a gigantic fraud, having similar routines with the Sherlock Holmes story. However, as they arrived at Kozo's home, nothing queer was noticed. Kozo mentioned that his brother and he both had a teapot which was inherited from their father; recently he received a letter expressing his desire to purchase both their teapots. Soon, Mitsuhiko noticed something off from the letter: even though the sender address was written to be in Kyoto, the post stamp was clearly from Tokyo.

Mitsuhiko following Kozo. |
Successfully, a serial robbery case happening persistently in second-hand stores caught their attention - importantly, the head of the robbery gang were still yet to be captured. In the meantime, Conan noticed Detective Takagi and Detective Chiba, who were again on a stakeout; according to their observations, Makio is most likely that head of robbers. Mistuhiko continued this deduction and speculated that his proceeding target is Kozo. The Detective Boys thus hurried to Kozo's house, but Kozo declared that he had just received another letter, and it also came with a ticket to Kyoto.
Conan and the rest went to rescue Mitsuhiko. |
At night, Mitsuhiko discovered Kozo, who was sneakily following Makio. They all saw the fact that Makio opened the door of his apartment, but he then hesitated, and returned to his house immediately. Kozo was then instigated to contact his brother Makio, which on the phone Makio disclosed that "he needed money currently, since he now depends 'on credit' to make a living (ツケで暮らしていて), and would approach Kozo in turn". From what Mistuhiko had heard, he noticed the strangeness: normally Makio calls Kozo's actual name, but in the phone call, the appellation was changed to "brother"; as such, Makio was trying to explain his relation-ship with Kozo. In addition to that, "ツケ" is a terminology in the game of go, meaning adjacent to enemy. This manifests that Makio was in danger so Detective Chiba went to rescue him by heading upstairs.
Despite Makio was found beaten by the teapot in his home, he had a non-life threatening condition... At the same time, Mitsuhiko dashed towards the corridor of the buckwheat noodle restaurant and confronted the culprit...

Episode 1128: Conan and Megure's Two Hostages (Part 1)
Scenario: Conan went out to purchase popular mystery novels in a bookstore, and by chance, he encountered two people (a man named Hayato Wakai and a woman named Chiaki Wakai) carrying a child, whose name was Kazuo Mimura. As they radiated gazes at each other, the child chucked a gachapon towards Conan. Opening the toy capsule, not only did Conan see a tiny Kamen Yaiba figurine inside, but also a piece of paper was visible. Unfolding it, Conan discovered that the child was being kidnapped, and the content on that paper was "HELP" (たすけて).
After Conan interpreted the signal of crisis, he tailed the three of them and perused into a hotel, where in the hall of the hotel he learned the number of their booked hotel room. Then he knocked on the door of their room and dashed into the room. He pretended to return the gachapon dropped by Kazuo and pulled him into the bathroom. Within the bathroom, he briefly grasped the situation by asking Kazuo for some basic information. Yet he scrutinised the bathroom; there were absolutely no exits to the exterior. The circumstances outside of the bathroom were rather eminent; Hayato kept urging the two kids to get out of the bathroom. Conan had no other choice but to exchange clothes with Kazuo based on the fact that they possess similar appearances. This was the best approach to saving Kazuo from the kidnappers.
Conan deceiving Hayato with the voice-changing bowtie. |
Since Conan had brought the Voice-Changing Bowtie with him, when the kidnappers intended to communicate with the hostage "Kazuo", Conan was able to gloss over by imitating Kazuo's voice using the bowtie. All of a sudden, Conan proclaimed that he was exceedingly hungry and wanted to consume some dumplings and shumai; consequently, they led them into a Chinese fast food restaurant and let Conan enjoy the food. At the same time, Hayato called Kazuo's father once again, demanding for that three-million-ransom in cash. By reading the instructions, Hayato alerted Mimura that the money must be available within an hour. On the other hand, Mimura requested to hear Kazuo's voice through the telephone, and Conan, with the help of his bowtie, managed to utter some words by impersonating Kazuo.
Kidnappers feeling perturbed when accepting the cross-examination. |
In Mimura Residence, the police from Investigation Division One were invariably inspecting the situation. After Mimura hung up the phone call with Hayato, he pointed out something weird: the "Kazuo" he heard from the phone called him "dad" rather than "papa", which made him wonder about the credibility of the voice. Megure also learned that there were two kidnappers involved and got some rough sketches of their faces. By contacting Sato, Takagi knew the names of the kidnappers as well as the vehicle they were driving; hence, Inspector Megure required checkpoints on the roads that the two kidnappers might come across with. Simultaneously, he claimed that if novels of movies were guiding the two amateur-ish kidnappers, arrest would be bound to be conducted.
On the road, Chiaki and Hayato were intercepted by the police, who were responsible for the checkpoint. The two of them were remarkably nervous, as everything would be dug out if Cinan in the back seat yelled in front of the police. Meanwhile, Conan found a mini toy car stuck within the gap between two car seats, which had the name "Tetsuya" (てつや) written underneath. He smirked. Then concealed the kidnapping affairs happening within the minivan. Thereupon, the police settled down and permitted their departure. As they drove away from the checkpoint, both two kidnappers felt fairly puzzled about Conan's behaviour; normally, any person, out of the sake of self-help, would call for aid when a police officer was in front of them. Conan responded, yet this time using his actual voice. Conan talked about their anxieties since he surmised that their primary intent was not to carry out crimes but to save their own child who got kidnapped, Tetsuya Wakai. Conan deduced this because he found that mini toy car that Tetsuya had lost a month ago. Conan thus revealed his identity: "Edogawa Conan, a detective."
On the other hand, the little Kazuo, who had exchanged clothes with Conan earlier, had been mandering around the tremendous city, lost and helpless. What he could remember that Conan told him was to find Detective Takagi from Investigation Division One; however, he had a really hard time finding police on the street. Kazuo then attempted to go home; knowing that his home was located in the direction of Shibuya, he entered a metro station. Unluckily, he got on the train, which went in the opposite direction (South Tokyo). Will Kazuo be able to arrive home successfully and notify his family?
0 Detective Conan Episode 1127: The Interrogation Room 2
Episode 1127: The Interrogation Room 2
Scenario: At the MPD Asahidai Police Station, Kogoro roared in an exceedingly anxious tone to Inspector Megure - the reason was, that a culprit behind a murder case who he had assisted the Division 1 to arrest, whose name was Kengo Kitao, was invariably on stand-by mode in terms of the formal prosecution procedure. This definitely struck Kogoro puzzled and kept insisting on getting a justifiable answer for it. Confronting the out-of-mind-Kogoro, Megure sighed and showed the situation: strangely, Kitao admitted everything frankly, but regardless of how Takagi questioned him regarding the details to his crime, he was utterly speechless, yet decided to simply get by the inquiries utilising the fact of his aging. Conan who was also present in the interrogation room, sensed something odd as well.
After seeing the newspaper reporting about the incident, Kogoro realised instantly, that the victim was clearly the one he had seen two days before, who was having an argument with an elderly man. Therefore, he decided to inform Megure right away. At the same time, Chiba brought another valuable piece of information: a person named Tamotsu Kambara precisely had witnessed a suspicious elderly man mandering around that construction area yesterday afternoon. After rendering a photo of that suspicious guy, Kogoro exclaimed and asserted that the man Kambara was referring to was the elderly man he saw the other day. Knowing the direction to investigate, the police went up digging further with regards to Kengo Kitao, they had confirmed his purchase of coal briquetts (element to conduct CO poisoning) at a certain general store. And - that was why they were in the interrogation questioning Kitao.
As everyone was stumbled by the stones of riddles, Chiba seemed to had brought some shards of hope, as he found another person who possessed a plausible motive, that is, the victim's aunt, Haruka Yomo. Yomo was frequently extorted by her nephew, and at the same time, Yomo was also friends who attended a haiku workshop together. Judging by Kitao's irrational words uttered within the interrogation room, Kogoro suspected that it could be possible if Kitao thought Yomo may had done it, and in order to protect her, he admitted the crime himself. Megure thereupon inquired of Kitao about it, yet Kitao constantly denied about it. However, after hearing the fact that Yomo actually had an alibi on the day of crime, Kitao's expressions transformed rapidly. He then gave up on insisting, and confessed that he requested Kambara to give false eyewitness testimony.
On the other end, Kambara also admitted that Kitao implored him to do so. Since Kitao was his teacher back then, Kambara agreed with it without thinking. In addition, Kambara also declared that Kitao was at his house from 10 AM to 2 PM all day; hence, it would be impossible for him to carry out that murder anyways.
Conan then pointed out a doubt: according to the security camera recorded, Kitao bought the coal briquetts before the murder. With this question in mind, they enquired Kitao once again. To tell the truth, Kitao confessed - initially, he was planning to kill Honda. One day by chance, Kitao learned the fact that Honda had been blackmailing his aunt for money regularly; as a friend of her, he would not let him at large, at all. After Honda left, Kitao also heard Yomo saying "if only Masato (Honda) weren't around". As a result, Kitao was determined to murder Honda so he went to the general store and purchased the coal briquetts. To make it seem totally irrelevant to Haruka Yomo, Kitao fabricated a separate motive: and so the fight with Honda that Kogoro witnessed was instigated. Before himself carrying out the crime, he read in the morning that Honda had already been murder by someone else; he went in panic. Consequently he disposed of all the equipment bought in preparation for his murder, and came to Kambara for an eyewitness testimony. Megure considered Kitao's thinking extremely incredulous, and therefore asked him if he liked Yomo. Kitao admitted but claimed it to be one-sided only.
By searching within the pond, the police were able to find the coal briquetts which Kitao disposed of earlier, which exactly matched with his testimonies. Later on, Megure declared Kitao's innocence upon the murder case but his behaviour of obstruction of justice for the past weeks would still need to be investigated further, yet the priority at the moment was the murder case itself. After hearing that Kitao went flustered, he requested Megure to indict him right away. On the other side of the room, Kogoro and Conan perceived some strangeness: why was Kitao in such a rush?
Kitao asking who will be going with Yomo in her trip. |
Abruptly, Conan realised something - it would be highly impossible that the method of killing thought up by Kitao happened to be the exact identical one utilised by the other culprit, this also woke Kogoro up. To conclude his deduction, Conan proclaimed that Kitao must be the culprit, and now, it would be their job to investigate the howdunnit behind the case.
They again consulted Kambara, and learned that on the day of murder, Kitao and he was invariably reminiscing some past-year photos all day long, considering the fact that his house was situated in Hikage Town, to that construction area where the victim's car in Asahidai, would require one hour of driving, seeing Kitao doing this would not be possible. However, Kambara disclosed that Kitao had left once mid-way, but that was to buy some cigarets, which only took ten minutes or so. Leaving Kambara's house, they went to see Yomo; they learned from her that Kitao apparently knew she was going to have an alibi on the day of murder, as once she talked about her trip at haiku workshop and Kitao was obviously remarking about it too. Also, Conan confirmed with her about Kitao's hearsay "If Masato weren't around", Yomo indeed had said that, but she answered that the implication of that sentence was not what Kitao thought.
Even though Kogoro had started to believe that Kitao was innocent, Conan was certain that Kitao was the culprit; final evidences were in need. He pondered for some time and realised that since the cause of death was Carbon Monoxide poisoning, the crime scene would not necessarily just be the construction area in Asahidai. Going through some buildings situated around Kambara's house, he was particularly searching for buildings that were in reach within five minutes (since Kitao was missing for ten minutes, one-way journey would be five minutes); successfully, Conan found an abandoned factory that could be approached in merely three minutes...

Episode 1126: The Detective Who Lost His Mind
Scenario: Kogoro and Conan this time encountered a client named Kanoko Kon. Whereupon they visited her residence with a great extent of curiosity. After entering the house, Kogoro scrutinised the interior and noticed a row of trophies aligned side-by-side. Beside the rightmost trophy there was also a photo of Sakurada Sakura, who is an idol jockey that belonged to Kon Corporation, the company which Kanoko's husband owned. Instinctually, Kogoro fiddled with the heavy trophies but then stopped his behaviour after hearing Kanoko's voice kicking in upstairs. After some customary greetings, Kanoko praised the refinement of Kogoro's new suit; Kogoro boasted that he had just purchased it yesterday at the Beika Department Store.
Kogoro introducing Conan as his assistant. |
In the following week, Kogoro and Conan liaised with each other to tail Heiwa throughly. After that, Kogoro agreed to meet Kanoko for one final time, in order to report all his finding throughout the week. It was a two o'clock, Kogoro awaited her with a seemingly triumph face, whilst having a band-aid stuck on his face. For some reason, they entered a Ferris wheel.
Upon the Ferris wheel, Kogoro told everything to Kanoko: her husband did not cheat on her at all, and no suspicious activities done by Heiwa had been noted. After hearing Kogoro's words, Kanoko expressed her gratefulness towards Kogoro and invited him to dine in a restaurant, at five o'clock.
At the restaurant, Kogoro realised that Kanoko's hair had been shortened, later he learned that she went to a salon before dining with Kogoro. They called it a night with some cheerful meals. Exiting the restaurant, Kanoko rendered some degree of weariness, thus Kogoro decided to accompany her home. After successfully sending her home, Kogoro was about to leave, yet he heard a loud scream by Kanoko afterwards. He ceased his footsteps and dashed towards Kon's residence. The scene he saw was...
Conan tagged along, since Ran was worried about Kogoro. Glancing over Kogoro, he reminisced about Kogoro walking outside sneakily after during noon. After following him, Conan found himself standing next to a barbershop.
Going through the security footage installed in Kanoko's house, they found out that the culprit attacked the victim unexpectedly from the back of the sofa, evidently, the murder weapon was the rightmost trophy deposited on that table initially. Additionally, the time of the murder happened at 16:32. Then the police looked closely at the footage video, they realised that the suit that the culprit was wearing was exactly the one Kogoro was wearing. Just when everyone was about to draw their suspicion upon Kogoro, Kanoko spoke. She attested Kogoro's alibi, as during that time, they were all sitting inside the Ferris wheel cabin. Kogoro's grieve had been annihilated since then - yet not so long, Kanoko overthrown the validity of this alibi. They had the discussing at 2:00, meanwhile the crime took place at 16:32, they then had dinner at 5:00 afterwards. This means that a hiatus of three hours of alibi from two o'clock to five o'clock could not be verified. Kanoko herself claimed that she was in the salon getting a haircut at half past four; as a result, Kogoro still had sufficient time to carry out the murder.
The security camera video. |
Apparently, the police believed the accusation despite the lack of motive (since they found Kogoro's fingerprints on the murder weapon trophy), Inspector Megure had no other choice except to arrest Kogoro. In the nick of time, Shooooo~, Conan activated his Stun-Gun Wristwatch.
