Scenario: Conan and Sonoko visit a dojo in Osaka to see Sonoko's long-distance boyfriend, Makoto Kyogoku. However, Kyogoku is accused of stealing an important black belt from the dojo's display case.

The Detective Boys, supervised by Kogoro, Ran and Sonoko, have come to Osaka to make a tour of the USJ theme park. But as luck would have it, Sonoko has learned that Makoto happens to be in Osaka, too, and unwilling to go alone, but also unwilling to leave the kids without sensible supervision by taking Ran along - she decided to pay him an impromptu visit with Conan for company. As a result, Conan and Sonoko find themselves as guest in the karate dojo of Tatsuhito Takami, a renowned martial artist and an old acquaintance of Makoto, from whom the latter had picked up his stoic demeanor and occasional intimidating presence.

Scenario: Shinichi tells his parents about Ronsuke Efune's suspicious behavior toward Ran. The next day, Efune takes the children to the park far away from the kindergarten. Yusaku Kudo goes to check on the children while dressed in disguise and witnesses the driver of a parked van taking photos of the children. Yusaku learns Efune's wife is staying at the hospital next to the park and begins to unravel Efune's plot.

Ran says that Shinichi actually pretended to solve her 'Sakura badge' case, when he had seen her being bullied and thus knew everything from the beginning. Conan's perspective of the story is explored in this episode. Back then, all he saw through the glass was a girl who was upset because she had something taken from her and the word 'outsider'. "It was the first time I had made a heart-pounding deduction.", he speaks to himself and continues to narrate his side of the story.

The story goes back to the scene when everything started. Yukiko is searching for Shinichi's badge and calls Yusaku to enquire about it. Meanwhile, Shinichi is lost in a mystery book. He reads, "If one simply knocks out all the central inferences, and presents one's audience with the starting-point and conclusion, one may produce a startling, though possibly a meretricious, effect." Shinichi seems typically embarrassed about wearing glasses when his mother tells him that he will end up wearing them if he reads in the dark.

They leave to Yusaku's book-signing event where Yusaku hands-over the badge and Shinichi clips it to his shirt. Shinichi and his mother arrive next at Beika Pre-school. Efune is carrying out the formalities for Shinichi joining pre-school. Wandering in search of the library, Shinichi ends up opening the doors to the room Ran and others are sleeping in. His first reaction is to be shocked at the sight of so many children lying in rows, which he mistook for a morgue from a scene he saw in a movie. He walks by the sleeping children and finds Ran crying. He sees her uniform missing a badge. He looks at the folds she is making from a distance and accurately deduces it to be a Cherry Blossom Petal from when he saw his dad making stars for decorating the Christmas Tree. He's embarrassed to ask her if he's right. When he tries to speak, he sees a badge made of paper. "What was taken from her wasn't a plastic badge.", he realises. He removes his own badge and all while maintaining his serious expression, tells her, "Make me one, too. (Pause) It's a cherry blossom, right?" He is worried if he's wrong in his deduction. Ran asks him how did he know that. Shinichi thinks she is making of him and explains his deduction, additionally calling her a 'crybaby'. Everyone is amused but Ran is mad at him. "I'm not a crybaby." She exclaims. Shinichi argues that she was crying, but Ran is insistent that she wasn't. That's when Yukiko finds Shinichi and starts scolding him. Shinichi tells her that he lost his nametag while he hides it in his pocket. The situation plays out like Ran's viewpoint, except only that Shinichi notices Efune staring darkly at Ran.

That day Shinichi explains to his parents why he finds that something is wrong with his new teacher Efune. Yukiko teases Shinchi that he's just being jealous because his teacher gives all his attention to Ran. Yusaku, however, thinks that there is a problem if Efune is playing favorites. He enquires if Shinichi had asked his teacher about his weird behavior. Shinichi tells the reasons Efune explained him earlier. Yusaku finally asks if Ran is the last one to wake up from sleep, to which Shinichi replies yes. Yusaku apparently has a fan from Hokkaido who shares her surname "Efune" with Shinichi's teacher.

The next day continues to Ran telling Sonoko about her mom scolding her for bullying. Only this time, a detective watches a suspicious figure in a car taking a photo of the kids. In the next scene in Beika Park where Efune explains his reason to Shinichi for changing their park, the detective watches the suspicious figure behind Efune's wife handing her the camera. The detective is none other than Yusaku.

Scenario: Ran, Sonoko, and Masumi follow Conan as he leads them to an alternate route. It seems Conan wanted Ran to see the Cherry Blossoms. A petal falls on Conan's nose. Ran picks it up and reminisces the first time she met Shinichi. She wonders if Shinichi knows that she hated him the first time she met him.

While Conan walks with Ran, Sonoko and Sera along a cherry blossom-lined road, Ran recalls how she met Kudo Shinichi. Thirteen years ago, Ran was being bullied by some boys in her kindergarten class. She was approached by Shinichi, who had just joined the school. Shinichi suspects something is up when he notices teacher Ronsuke Efune staring at Ran the whole time. Later, he's suspicious when Efune shows favoritism to Ran. Efune explains each of his actions, but Shinichi suspects Efune is plotting something.

This part emphasises on Ran's perception of the story. 

Thirteen years ago, Eri is still married to Kogoro. It is Kogoro's first day at the headquarters and she is searching for Ran's Sakura Badge for pre-school. Kogoro accidentally steps on it and breaks it, so Eri makes Ran a temporary one using colored paper and cardboard.

Meanwhile, a man and a woman are heard talking over something. Their faces are not yet revealed. He says, "She isn't going to come back." Not bothered at all, the woman tells him to "reset everything" and that "there are no time constraints to starting over".

In another scene, Yusaku is in book-signing event where a fan admires his writing that says that she liked one of the last lines of the wandering woman detective in his story: "There are no time constraints to starting over." She hails from Hokkaido. Yukiko calls Yusaku to inform that Shinichi's pre-school badge is missing. Yusaku accidently brought everything that was on his desk, including the badge.

Ran's paper badge is admired by Sonoko in school, but some guys don't seem too happy about it. Sonoko and one of them get into a fight over Ran's badge, which is resolved by their teacher, Ronsuke Efune. Unfortunately, Ran's badge is all crumpled up but she says that she can make it again since she saw her mom make it.

While everyone is sleeping, Ran is struggling to make her badge out of paper again. This is when Shinichi approaches her. "It's a Cherry Blossom, right?", he says. Upon Ran asking why, he presents his deduction. By the time he finishes, everyone is listening and amused. But Ran doesn't seem too flattered by someone who called her a "crybaby". Sonoko admires him but Ran tries to refute his claim exclaiming that she wasn't crying. Yukiko arrives and scolds Shinichi for running away and losing his badge. Shinichi says that he was telling Ran to make a new one for him. Yukiko recognizes Ran as Eri's daughter. Ran asks for Shinichi name and writes it on the badge, telling him that he can keep it, but he has to promise that Ran is not a crybaby so he won't ever call her that.

Back to the present, Ran says that she couldn't digest the fact that Shinichi being just a kid himself like everyone was acting all like an adult. She was actually crying because the badge her mom made for her was ruined. At that time, she couldn't understand the real reason why Shinichi asked her to make a badge for him.

Another day in the school, Shinichi catches Efune staring at Ran while singing. Sonoko claims that Efune can do that since he's the teacher and very popular, so much that many kids want to marry him when they grow up. Upon asking if she likes Efune, Ran shies away from Shinichi shouting why would she tell him that.

Later that day, Shinichi confronts Efune regarding some inconsistencies he found in his behavior towards Ran. He presents his questions: Why would he hold her hand when they cross the street? Why would he let her slide first in the park? Why would the location of the park be changed to a distant one without any reason? Why does Ran only have a designated spot for sleeping? He concludes that Efune is trying to win her over and do bad things to her. Efune states his reasons: He holds her hand because one time she lost the way and ended up on the other side of town in Haido City. He lets her slide first because she always ends up letting everybody go first and doesn't get to slide herself sometimes. And she sleeps where she does because it is nearest to the bathroom as one time she was sleeping so far away that she didn't make it. He says that he'll state his reasons for switching the park the next day.

Detectives Sato and Takagi are also pursuing Ogikubo as the suspect in an armed robbery. Ogikubo takes Sato hostage and heads for the hot springs, where he plans to meet up with his accomplice and split the ransom money. The detectives arrest Ogikubo, but the 100 million yen inside the bag has disappeared. Conan pursues Manami and Ogikubo's accomplice in order to solve the case.

When she almost apprehend the culprit, he suddenly point a gun into her.

Episode 851: The Descent Into Hell Tour of Love (Beppu Chapter)

Scenario: Kogoro takes Conan and Ran to the Beppu hot springs in Oita Prefecture. Kogoro's true purpose is to find Manami Nakadai, the missing daughter of Nakadai Electric's president. It's highly probable that Manami came to Beppu to see her ex-boyfriend, Hiroyuki Hayami. Kogoro is able to find Manami, but she is then kidnapped. Meanwhile, Detective Miwako Sato and the police are pursuing an armed robber in Oita Prefecture.

A man named Hidetora Nakadai and his secretary Yozo Hozogai goes into Mouri Detective Agency, to save his daughter named Manami Nakadai, at first they threatened the Nakadai family that she was kidnapped. Also, without noticing Conan.

Ran and Conan have been invited by Kogoro to the jigoku ("hell") hot springs near the city of Beppu in the Oita Prefecuture. However, during the train ride Conan notices that Kogoro is unusually serious, and he also spots Takagi onboard, who desperately pleads with him not to reveal his presence.

While taking a tour at the springs, Conan notices a strange man wearing shades and carrying an oni mask strapped to his backpack. Right afterwards, he and Ran surprise Kogoro when he walks by holding the picture of a pretty young woman in his hands. As Kogoro reveals under pressure, he has travelled to Beppu on an assignment. The woman is Manami Nakadai, daughter of Hidetora Nakadai, the president of a prestigious electrics company. Manami has run away, leaving only a picture of her holding a ticket to the jigoku springs. The reason is that she recently became engaged with Kenichiro Ehara, a move which apparently drove her ex-boyfriend, Hiroyuki Hayami, a paper craftsman located in Beppu, into blackmailing her with pictures of their dissolved relationship.

While inspecting the picture, Conan notices a van with a special logo in its background, which leads them to an inn with an outdoor hot spring for bathing. However, while discussing the case during their bath, they unknowingly catch the attention of Manami, who is also staying at the inn. Shortly afterwards, Conan and Kogoro encounter Manami, but before they can react on their discovery, a scream from Manami sends them rushing to her room, where they see what appears to be a pair of glowing red eyes hovering before the window; just moments later, the eyes suddenly float away into the darkness. When Conan investigates the scene in the light of the next morning, he notices a peculiar set of cut marks on the tree in front of the window.

Manami declares her willingness to accompany Conan and the Mouris back to Tokyo the following day, whereupon Hidetora Nakadai declares that he will come to Beppu personally to fetch her. However, when left alone in her room while Conan and the Mouris receive Hidetora, Hozogai and Ehara, Manami is kidnapped from her room by an individual wearing a red oni mask. When the others come up to look after her, they find the room ransacked and some tire tracks near the inn's emergency exit. Right afterwards, the kidnapper calls President Nakadai and demands a ransom of 100 million yen for Manami's release, to be delivered by Ehara to the Takasakiyama Zoo. Conan, suspecting that there may be more to the case than meets the eye, marks the money bundles with a highlighter pen.

At the same time, in nearby Yufuin, Detective Takagi is ostensibly taking a vacation with Sato, despite him having been assigned to handle an armed robbery case, with one of the perpetrators being the man with the oni mask Conan encountered in Beppu. Because Takagi is still holding his hopes high that his relationship should progress into marriage soon, he has taken a sick leave, actually an absence without justified leave, in order to spend some private time with her in Yufuin and capitalize on the emotion of the moment. However, a call from Megure not only reveals his duplicity to a furious Sato, it also points out that the car of the robbers was found at Oita Marine Palace Aquarium by the Prefecture police. Sato immediately takes up the case, towing a devastated Takagi along for some atonement, suspecting that the culrpit must be visiting the aquarium park, which incidentally lies right next to the Takasamiyama Zoo. While invesitating the zoo for clues, Takagi inadvertently crosses paths with Conan's entourage on their own stakeout of the ransom delivery.

Ehara is supposed to wait inside a visitor's cabin on the zoo grounds, but soon he comes running out with the ransom money bag in his hands, claiming that he can't handle the pressure. Then the kidnapper calls, leaving instructions to deposit the bag at the Monkey Rock, a local landmark. Expecting the kidnapper to arrive on foot, the group is taken by surprise when a remote-controlled drone arrives instead to snag the bag with a hook. Conan tries to stop it, only to be hoisted into the air along with the bag.

While waiting in her room for her father to arrive, Manami was blindfolded and taken away through the inn's emergency exit by a man with a red oni mask. In addition, the room and its contents were thoroughly ransacked.

Scenario: Building manager Koroku Hachitsuka hides the envelope containing a marriage registration form Haneda gave to Yumi and locks his computer with an eight-digit password. Believing the solution may require more than one sheet of paper, Conan and his friends decide to search the room for the other sheet. During their search, Yumi notices the code sheet is a copy and not the original. This clue leads Conan to the solution.

Scenario: When police Officer Yumi Miyamoto sees a news story about the shogi championship match, she learns for the first time that Haneda is a professional shogi player. Several years earlier, Yumi received an envelope from Haneda and was instructed not to open it until he had acquired "all seven." Haneda has now won all seven major shogi titles. Detective Sato reasons that the envelope's contents must be a marriage registration, but Yumi threw out the magazine she kept the envelope in that morning. They immediately head to the dump site, but the magazine is gone. Conan and the Detective Boys attempt to help Yumi find the envelope.

Yumi was unaware of Shukichi being a famous shogi player for a long time, mostly due to her lack of interest in investigating, and an apparent personal disinterest in shogi (she is more of a Mahjong type). She assumed Shukichi was a "meijin" at some minor game like shiratori or fishing. She eventually saw Shukichi on television and figured it out. After realizing that meijins can make 100,000,000 yen in salary, she desperately tries to reclaim an envelope he left for her, which her ornery building manager had seized. (After Yumi had mistakenly put it in an old magazine and took it out to the trash on the wrong day).

The envelope was given to her by Shukichi Haneda, and was said to open it when he had collected all seven. Those seven were figured out to be the seven titles of shogi meijin.

The building manager, a shogi fan and a former pickpocket, looked inside the envelope to find the marriage registration form, and made a game that would uncover the 8 digit password for the marriage registration. The game was for the purpose to challenge Yumi, whom he called 'ChaCha', and to find if she was worthy of being Shukichi's wife.

Scenario: Detective Chiba is investigating a strange case that took place three months earlier. Magazine editor Kyogo Nakatsu was suffocated to death and pressed face-first into a patch of concrete at Haido High School. The prime suspect is UFO fanatic Yusuke Kuchiki, who testifies that an alien flew down in a UFO and murdered Nakatsu while floating mid-air, and a security camera captured a mysterious shadow.

A girl from Haido Senior High School comes to Kogoro's office to report a sighting of an alien at Haido Park. Conan recalls that this is the same place where the incidents of Jodie's Memories and the Cherry Blossom Viewing Trap happened. He also recalls that if Haibara and Mary look alike, they can be related. That can then mean Haibara and Akai Shuichi are also related. Kogoro, Conan, and Ran get to the school, and they see a big piece of concrete with footsteps on it. Officer Chiba later arrives and tells them there was a murder here and that a man was caught in it. It is said that the man was killed by an alien who came out from an flying UFO and fled just after.

One morning, Nakatsu and Kuchiki were both found by construction workers lying side by side inside a patch of hardening concrete. Forensics found that Nakatsu was suffocated by having his breathing cut off, but no murder weapon was found. Upon being questioned, Kuchiki has claimed that Nakatsu was actually killed by an alien hovering above them. Some credibility for this tale is lent by the fact that the only footprints found in the concrete were Nakatsu's and Kuchiki's.

Scenario: Mitsuhiko hears about the case Kogoro has been hired to investigate and deduces that it must be related to the burglary Conan witnessed. Ai and the others realize that Conan is inside Gotaro's coffin, but the hearse is already on its way to the crematorium.

The kidnapper enclosed Conan in a box inside an unused hearse in order to secure the material witness and the altered testament, to be released after the original testament's purpose had been executed and thus made legally valid. However, unknown to the culprit, the hearse in question (with the box inside) was assigned to be scrapped and is driven to the Kuriniji Scrapyard. Fortunately, just before the car is compressed, the box cracks, allowing Conan to break out with his power-kick shoes.

Scenario: Conan witnesses a figure breaking open a safe inside a building, but he is attacked by the culprit and imprisoned inside a rectangular box. Meanwhile, Kogoro is hired to find the thief who stole the will of Karabashi Group chairman Gotaro Karabashi. Conan manages to get in touch with the Detective Boys using his badge, but he soon finds himself cornered in a desperate situation.

Kogoro is asked by lawyer Kimihiko Asada to investigate a break-in and theft in his office. The object of the robbery was the altered last will of Gotaro Karahashi, the late chairman of the Karahashi Group, who - instead of favoring his next of kin, as previously intended - left his entire vast fortune to his lover and long-time secretary.

While going shopping for new video games with his fellow Detective Boys, Conan noticed the burglary into Asada's office and decided to investigate on his own. He caught the culprit breaking the safe open, but was discovered, kicked into unconsciousness, and taken away.

Scenario: The Detective Boys and Professor Agasa go to a restaurant at the Beika Department Store. In the stairwell, they witness Ujiyasu Hosogoe, the head chef, being stabbed in the stomach by a disgruntled customer. Conan calls Genta, Mitsuhiko and Ayumi to let them know the culprit escaped down a different stairway. Genta, Mitsuhiko, and Ayumi all saw the culprit, but each of their accounts is totally different from the others. Determining the culprit's identity will be rather difficult.

Professor Agasa has once again won a meal ticket and is taking the Detective Boys to a restaurant at the department store. On the way there Conan thinks over what he knows about Masumi and the girl, Mary, who is living with her, but his thoughts are interrupted by Haibara, who is dead tired after chasing after a cockroach all night. When they arrive at the department store, they see it already decorated for Christmas. Ayumi and Haibara approach the makeup counter, and Haibara demands that they get to try on some makeup since they are customers. The counter workers try to deny them since they are too young. Upon Haibara's insistence they get the makeup (Mascara lining) anyway, but Haibara sorely disappoints the counter worker's hopes for a sale to their mothers.

After the meal Agasa reveals another surprise, that he had also won a shopping ticket so that they could buy themselves early Christmas presents. Ayumi, Genta, Mitsuhiko, and Haibara all walk off to select their favorite presents, blissfully ignoring the fact that the ticket is worth only ¥10,000 (roughly $100). Conan and Agasa observe the restaurant chef, Ujiyasu Hosogoe, getting told by another chef that a troublesome customer had called again, and Ujiyasu telling him to inform the customer to meet him in the stairwell.

After half an hour has passed, Conan hears screaming coming from the stairwell and rushes in to find Ujiyasu has been stabbed. He said that the culprit ran down the stairs so Conan has the Detective Boys run to the stairwell and remember every detail about the culprit when they see him running down. The police are able to round up three suspects, but the Detective Boys unexpectedly give three completely different descriptions of who they think is the culprit is, and Genta mentions that he thinks the culprit had the number 2 on him.

Scenario: Six months earlier, Remi Kirisaki hanged herself in her apartment and her neighbor, Kei Nakanishi, blamed herself for being unable to prevent it. Remi used fake names to flee from debt collectors, but Conan finds it strange that she used her real name to rent an apartment just before she died. He notices a few other strange things about the story as well.

Kikuchi testifies that a man with an umbrella suddenly jumped into the intersection and he could not stop his car in time. Tsutsumi's will is found in his jacket pocket.

Conan and Kogoro heard some strange noise, after they went to the scene, they found him unconscious.

After preserving the scene, suddenly they found someone dead, and it was Kikuchi's friend who was hit.

Scenario: Officer worker Junko Hirose is arrested for a murder that took place in Tonkoro City. Junko confesses she was being blackmailed by the victim, Masaru Katsui, and killed him because she could not take it anymore. However, Kogoro saw Junko in Beika City at the time of the murder. Because Tonkoro City and Beika City are an hour's drive apart, Kogoro explains to Inspector Megure that it was impossible for Junko to commit the crime. Her alibi verified, Junko is released. However, a dissatisfied Conan, Kogoro and Ran question Junko's coworker and ex-boyfriend as they close in on the truth.

Scenario: While hiking, Kogoro, Conan, and Ran hear the moaning voice of the tengu, a mythical dog-like creature. Inside the cave, Conan discovers a body wearing a tengu mask hanging from the shrine. The body belongs to Mayor Shoji Mayama. Kogoro determines the death is a suicide based on the absence of anyone else in the cave, but Conan feels there's something off about the body and crime scene.

During the race, reigning champion Shingo Mizuguchi's balloon collides with Akihiro Okuda's and begins falling. As the balloon descends, his wife, Arisa Mizuguchi, falls to her death. Because Mizuguchi and Okuda fought before the race, the police suspect Okuda deliberately crashed into Mizuguchi's balloon. Okuda insists it was an accident but based on the condition of Okuda's balloon, Conan determines it was not an accident but a murder.

As every year, Sonoko goes to the "Suzuki Balloon Festival", the largest national hot-air balloon race sponsored by her family at the Ibaraki Prefecture, but this time with Ran and Conan. The three go on Ayato Hasegawa's balloon, the receptionist who must record the video of the competition.

During the race, with a premium of ten million yen for the winner, Akihiro Okuda's balloon clashes with Shingo Mizuguchi's, the reigning champion, and as he cuts on his face, his wife Arisa Mizuguchi falls from the wicker basket and dies on the river bank.

The police are immediately called. Conan finds out that it was not an accident, so he fells Sonoko asleep and resolved the case.

Scenario: Inspector Megure learns the drummer often fought with other bands and believes someone else may have committed the murder. After listening to the stories of the three surviving band members, Conan checks the video of the band practicing. He realizes why the string-like weapon used to kill the victim has not been found in the studio and determines the identity of the killer and the surprising trick that was used.

The three suspects point out that they had altercations with members of other bands, and that it is possible that one of them may have been the killer.

Conan asks to see the video recorded by the cellphone from before the murder. It had been filming vertically because it was stylish and so it would not show their legs. Rei and Masumi lean in to get a better look, and they realize how the trick was done.
