Great Detective Conan, officially translated as Detective Conan) in Japan, is a Japanese detective manga series written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. The series is serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday since February 2, 1994, and has been collected in 73 tankōbon volumes as of September 2011. Due to legal considerations with the name Detective Conan, the English language release was renamed Case Closed.[1] The story follows the adventures of Jimmy Kudo, a prodigious young detective who was inadvertently transformed into a child after being poisoned.Since its publication, Case Closed has spawned a substantial media franchise. The manga has been adapted into an ongoing animated television series by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation and TMS Entertainment; the animated series has reached its twentieth season. The series has spawned three original video animation series, fifteen animated feature films, three live action dramas, one live action series, numerous video games, and many types of Case Closed-related merchandise. A two-hour television special titled Lupin the 3rd vs Detective Conan was aired on March 27, 2009, and featured a crossover with the series Lupin III.
Funimation Entertainment licensed the anime series for North American broadcast in 2003 under the name Case Closed with the characters given Americanized names. The anime premiered on Cartoon Network as part of their Adult Swim programming block and was discontinued due to low ratings. The first six films were released on Region 1 DVD in North America. Viz Media later licensed the manga series for English-language publication in North America and used Funimation's renamed title and cast. As of July 2011, 39 volumes have been published by Viz Media.
Compilation volumes of the manga have sold more than 120 million copies in Japan. In 2001, the manga was awarded 46th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōnen category. The anime adaptation has been well received and ranked in the top twenty in Animage's polls between 1996 and 2001. In the Japanese TV anime ranking, Case Closed often ranked in the top six. Both manga and anime have had positive response from critics for its plot and cases.
Genre
Great Detective Conan is written in the classic detective genre, with classic layout of the murders in the house, and there are countless cases suspect. Covers the way the case was argued solving very typical of the classic text adventure.Plot
Jimmy Kudo is a 17-year-old high school prodigy who frequently helps the police to solve cases. During an investigation, he is attacked by two criminals, codenamed Gin and Vodka, from the syndicate called the Black Organization. They force him to ingest an experimental poison, APTX 4869, which is supposed to kill him, and leave him to die. A rare side-effect of the poison, however, transforms Kudo's body into that of a child instead of killing him.Adopting the pseudonym Conan Edogawa, Kudo hides his identity to investigate the Black Organization. He intends to pretend to be a child until he can find enough evidence to apprehend the syndicate, after which he can then safely find and administer a cure for his current condition. Edogawa enrolls at Teitan elementary school and forms the Junior Detective League with three other children in his class: Amy Yoshida, Mitch Tsuburaya, and George Kojima. To further cover up his activities, he moves in with his childhood friend Rachel Moore, whose father, Richard, works as a private investigator. Kudo continues to solve criminal cases as Conan, but usually poses as Richard Moore with the help of special gadgets invented by his neighbor and friend, Hiroshi Agasa.
Shiho Miyano, a member of the Black Organization and creator of APTX 4869, tries to leave the syndicate after her sister's murder, but is held captive by them. She attempts to commit suicide by ingesting APTX 4869; however, like Kudo, she is transformed into a child. She manages to escape and enrolls in Conan's school under the pseudonym, Anita Hailey. She joins the Junior Detective League and assists Conan in his investigations on the Black Organization. Conan's quest has led him to help the FBI to plant a CIA agent, Kir, inside the Black Organization as an undercover spy.
In 2007, Aoyama hinted he had the ending planned out but he has no intention of ending the series yet.

0 Detective Conan Episode 1114: The Holed-Up Sensation
Episode 1114: The Holed-Up Sensation
Scenario: On a Friday afternoon, everything seemed to progress just as an ordinary Friday would; however, among a certain street, things had become exceedingly intense and imminent: all pedestrians were startled and ceased their movements as a result, gaping their mouths with utter astonishments afterwards. Obviously, all of their focus was completely taken away by a young man - Yuichi Beppu. He abruptly showed up with a gun in his hand, urging all of the pedestrians, in his perspective, obstacles, to drive away as he advanced in the middle of that street. All of the people went into panic hysterically and fled at their maximum velocity. The guy shouted. He glanced over the street. Immediately, he saw another pedestrian who was stunned but did not realise the severeness of the situation. The guy grabbed her by the neck. He escorted her fiercely into a nearby residence at random, which also happened to be an empty one with the door lock unlocked, and in turn kidnapped her rapidly without any negligence.
Beppu closed the door to that residence. He darted through the staircases perceptively. He swiftly managed to open the huge window to the veranda of the second floor... The police had arrived... All media agencies liaised with each other, recording this dramatic scenario happening on this not-so-peaceful Friday afternoon. Beppu claimed himself as "Culprit X" and would kidnap the girl he had just grabbed randomly from the street. He chortled defiantly like a maniac.
The size of this commotion had increased significantly in terms of its affectiveness and attractiveness. Kogoro and Conan saw this incident broadcast on the TV and arrived there to do some watchout; staff from Nichiuri TV were deployed with helicopters to observe the situation; Inspector Megure, along with the personnel from Tokyo Police Division 1, were on standby and served as the contact person with the kidnapper Neppu. The kinapper Beppu had taken quite violent action on the veranda - he was threatening the Tokyo Police regarding the hostage, saying that if he got incensed, he would end the life of that girl effortlessly. This made Inspector Megure rather anxious; he emphasised to Beppu that he ought not to harm the hostage.
On the other hand, Beppu had given out some terms he wanted to fulfil in order to keep the hostage safe: firstly, a gold player named Yumura Nichiuri must hit ten home runs during the game tonight; secondly, the manufacturer of the "Yaiba Chocoloate" must increment the number of cards that come in each chololate package from one to one hundred. Having these statements declared, everyone was petrified in a confounded manner, as this is definitely not what they would expect a kidnapper to say.
"This is ridiculous," Takagi remarked. Beppu smirked grandly in triumph. At this instance, a middle-aged man turned up; he is named Shosuke Kusatsu. He told Megure that the house where the kidnaper holed up himself along with the hostage was originally his house, yet he moved away some days ago. Hence, the house was on its way of being demolished. Beppu overheard their conversation and cackled even more. He took the hostage with him inside and closed the window door to the veranda malevolently. Just as Kogoro and Megure were at a loss for dealing with the kidnapper, they heard a sharp and rowdy noise - it was patently the sound of a gun being fired. Pow! Pow! Immaculately two shots. All pedestrians were appaled. Inspector Megure began to scream, "What did you do, Culprit X?" But no response came from the building. Therefore, the police decided to break into the house forcibly...
... as they arrived in at the second floor of the building, they were all astounded by what they had seen in front of them - two restful dead bodies lying neatly over the tatami mat, out of breath and with no sign of vitality. How come both of them get killed?
There is a suicide note tossed nearby Beppu's body and recorded: "It was supposed to be a joke, but then it blew up." |
By checking the licences in their belongings, the police quickly identified the identities of the two victims but also discovered a shocking truth: the addresses on both licences were the same! What did that imply? They were living together, simply. Knowing this information, Conan surmised that they were most likely just executing an act in the public, one of the would be pretending to be the hostage, and the other one, evidently, would be acting the kidnapper role. This may also match with the suicide note remained at the crime scene: a joke after all.
The crime scene. |
An acquaintance of the vitcims, Tsutomu Kinugawa, thus visited the building at this moment. He claimed that he only knew this after seeing the news air on the TV. He then disclosed some useful clues to the police:
- Few days ago, Beppu told him that "something" astonishing would happen during the weekend (might be referring to this Friday afternoon)
- In Kingawa's conjecture, Beppu had most likely made a bet with someone else
- Beppu also had recounted a joke pertaining to "making a fortune by carrying out a ludicrous joke"
Based on these information, Takagi speculated that Beppu intended to implement a "funny" joke towards the public (can tell by looking at those non-sense terms he offered) by faking an abduction with his wife; by doing this, he could force the golf game and in turn, alter the resolution of the scores. This aided him in winning the bet he made; however, he quickly realised that he overcommitted too much, leading to the situation becoming fairly austere. Not withstanding the huge pressure, the two of them committing suicide seemed to be the only way to play this farce off.
The police's deduction did seem somewhat justifiable and consistent with the clues left in the crime scene. Nonetheless, Conan was not convinced at all. He instigated Kogoro to extend the investiagtion further.

0 Detective Conan Episode 1113: Last Dinner for You
Episode 1113: Last Dinner for You
Scenario: Kogoro, Ran and Conan are walking on Beika streets at noon, as Kogoro wants to bring them to an italian restaurant. When Ran asks why, he answers that there's a free drink for every person. Suddenly, the sound of a fire alarm is heard by them, and it turns out the restaurant catched on fire! They witness how a man enters the restaurant, and Kogoro decides to enter too, and tells Ran to call the fire department. Kogoro rescues the man, and asks Ran to call the police too, as they saw a dead man inside. The fire department and Inspector Yuminaga arrive at the scene, and discovered how the fire started: yhe fire originated after a pot of oil caught on fire after a gas burner was left turned on. Then, Kogoro shows Inspector Yuminaga the dead body, but surprisingly the man didn't die because of the fire, but was killed.
They deduce a burglar broke in, as the restaurant was closed, but when they saw how someone was inside, they killed him and made the fire on purpose. The dead man's identity is revealed to be the 39 year-old's italian restaurant cook Marcello Salerno. Then, the restaurant owner Ryutaro Kurasaka arrives at the scene, and the man who entered the building is revealed to be Jun Akimura, a waiter. Kurasaka states that no one held a grudge against him, as he was a good-natured and cheerful italian man, but suddenly Akimura says that he ran a tight ship. They see how some dishes were made by him, even if the restaurant was closed, and how one of the tables was arranged and prepared beforehand, meaning that the victim probably invited someone to dinner. Outside, a woman cries about Marcello's death, the woman is revealed to be Kurasaka's daughter Mariko, who was also Marcello's assistant. Mariko also had a strong rosemary scent, that makes Yuminaga suspect her. Suddenly, another woman arrives, but this time it's revealed to be Marcello's wife Arisa Salerno. She says that she wasn't sure if she could help, as she and her husband were separated and about to divorce. She also was the one Marcello wanted to meet, and that's why he prepared the dinner, but as she didn't know where the restaurant was, she decided to leave without arriving. After that, Conan deduces that Marcello made a breakup dinner for her wife, but the message that stated that wasn't on Marcello's phone, and in the phone there was only a message in italian language. Conan then listens how Akimura started to blackmail Kurasaka, as Mariko and Marcello's relationship. Kogoro was recreating how they found the body, when he bumps into a cart, that made Yuminaga suspect about how the murder was done. Many clues -like the same set of footprints and the utensils in the sink- revealed that the victim continued cooking until he died, and Conan wonders if the victim erased the culprit's footprints. When Ran goes search for him, he asks her what are the dishes in the cooking list: Bagna Cauda, Milanese-style risotto, Picatta and Tiramisu. But there's an extra dish made by the victim, that made Conan being sure about how the murder happened
0 Detective Conan Episode 1112: Rube Goldberg Machine (Part 2)
Episode 1112: Rube Goldberg Machine (Part 2)
Scenario: Having identified the victim as Norihiro Shimada, Conan and the majority began to scrutinise the crime scene. Inspector Yamamura initially thought that Shimada most likely committed suicide, probably due to the timidity and panic he possessed at that time. Jumping off the bridge seemed rather justifiable for this consequence. Notwithstanding that, Conan did not feel convinced at all. He inspected scrupulously at Shimada's dead body and found out a relatively useful clue: the scraf that the deceased wore was assuredly the off one out. The reason that this notion arose from Conan's mind was that, except for this scarf, other clothes that the victim had seemed quite worth a fortune (expensive brands). Conversely, the scarf that the body had is a fairly cheap and crude one, more commonly found in society, simply.
The strangulation mark beneath the scarf. |
With this perplexity in mind, Yamamura was instructed to take off that scraf of the body. And what was beneath the scraf was... a noticeable mark caused by trangulation. Despite Yamamura thinking it would be plausible for the victim to strangulate himself while jumping down the bridge, Kogoro cut the non-sense out immediately and confidently procliamed that this could be treated as murder from now on.
After finishing checking the body out, Kogoro, Ran, and Conan stayed at the police station and attempted to unravel some of the mysteries. All of a sudden, Yamamura entered the room and handed in a piece of paper - it was the prenuptial contract signed by Kohei Inoue and Nanako Inoue. It was written clearly on the paper that if Kohei died before Nanako, all of his heritage would be transferred to Nanako, including that secret recipe for Yangnyeom chicken sauce. However, if Nanako acted unloyal to Kohei, she would not get a tinge of this legacy; precisely, all of them would be granted to an animal welfare society. Then here came the contradictory part: the entire contract was invariably limiting the freedom of Nanako, whereas there were no words stating the consequences if the other party, in this case, Kohei, would undergo, if unloyalty was manifested. As a result, Kogoro concluded that this was typically what we would call an "one-sided" contract, basically being unfair to Nanako. Conan also offered that by talking with the suspects, he learned that Nanako actually knew the presence of Kohei's mistress, thus in a way she could hold grudges against her husband.
Conan then reviewed that photo taken a few years back, concerning the Rube Goldberg Machine Club at Haido University, where Shimada was present. He finally realised that one of the girls who appeared in that photo was, in fact, Teshima. He was able to confirm this due to the moles on her face. Therefore, when Kawamoto was scolding Teshima, the remark "you and Shimada go way back" rang true. Though he still could not understand why she would conceal that information from everyone when accepting their inquiry.
Kogoro sighed and remarked that all of the suspects and clues seemed to all connect to each other, forming a sort of chain. Just like the Rube Goldberg Machine. Meanwhile, Conan thought that even though they really looked like they were all connected, some parts just detached somehow. Puzzled, he thought profoundly and had a slight epiphany in his mind. He then whispered towards Yamamura for some requests. However in the name of Shinichi Kudo. Hearing that it was the renowned detective "Shinichi" who asked for some assistance, Yamamura implemented it instantly. When he gave the results to Conan, Conan understood everything and smirked with his utmost confidence.
Conan began to set things up, and Yamamura, on the other hand, gathered all of the suspects at the police station. After declaring that they had identified the culprit for this serial murder case, everyone was dumbfounded. "Great detective Kogoro Mouri is here... but," Yamamura uttered. "the greater detective Kudo..." Just as he was about to say the famed name of "Kudo Shinichi", Conan perceived that it would be unsuitable for him to continue this sentence, as, for both, it would shatter Kogoro's vanity, and would make Ran feel confused. So right in time, Conan tranquillized him and took over this awkward speech, "Kudo Shinichi won't be solving this case either." Yamamura was fully in the coma.

0 Detective Conan Episode 1111: Rube Goldberg Machine (Part 1)
Episode 1111: Rube Goldberg Machine (Part 1)
Scenario: A morning in the dreary-but-peaceful forest kicked off with a customary morning radio - Moriyama Shu's Morning Frolic. The shabby machine still managed to work despite its treacherous vicinity; it was being wrapped upon one of the trees: with an alarm clock assigned to six o'clock straight. If it was propagating the radio programmer, six o'clock must have arrived. Whilst broadcasting the programmer, the machine seemed to possess a built-in feature that automatically distributed some bird food at that time. With the food loaded onto the plate, two birds who were resting on the branches swiftly dashed towards it, seizing the first pleasure of the day. Just as the two birds were rejoicing over their "breakfast", an atrocious crow cropped up, brutally blasting them away. For some reason, the excessive force exerted by the crow on the plate of that radio machine led the plank to fall apart - this activated a pulley-like wheel, resulting in several dominoes to fall, overlapping each other; afterwards, it pushed a tiny marble to slide down a pre-prepared track, with all those momentum the ball gather along the long journeying upon the track, it eventually rebounded at a metal can, bumping into a glass bottle which was attached with a rope; this then triggered a brick to be thrown onto a platform made out of wooden block, thereupon, the timber that were deposited on top of that platform fell accordingly, landing exactly at a lever device; finally, the axe that was originally quiet sitting on it ejected with a considerably amount of force. After all of those gimmicks, parts of a chimney fell abruptly from a nearby villa, this was followed by a tragic scream.
Coincidentally, the Mouri family were lingering around the district as well. They were there because of Kogoro's affair: a client of his requested him to ascertain the identity of the intruder who has been on the rampage around his house; however, they managed to solve the mystery effortlessly, and the truth turned out to be that the intruder was merely a raccoon. As a result, they were on their way home, conversing jovially. After some minutes, they noticed Inspector Yamamura within a few miles, standing beside a huge mansion. Right after he saw them, he instantly waved at them. Kogoro thus inquired of him about what case he was investigating, and Yamamura responded that there seemed to be an accident that happened a while ago, with the outcome of having one deceased: a middle-aged man who got struck down by the fallen chimney pipe, when he was drinking coffee on the deck of the mansion. Ran remarked that she has seen the victim already on TV, and Yamamura uttered that the victim is named Kohei Inoue, who is the chairman of the chain restaurant "Cheom Cheom". Even though the situation at the crime scene made several people, including Yamamura, believe that the victim lost his life in a sorrow accident, but Conan, who has perceptive insight, immediately realized that it was actually a murder! He then pointed out that at one end of the chimenry pipe, which took Inoue's life, the interface was apparently dented. With this detail recognized, he surmised that it must have been caused by mankind.
By adjusting the perspective to the case, Inspector Yamamura thus advanced on investigating some acquaintances of Inoue, and found out that there were four people who lived in the same mansion: Fuma Tanaka, the president and CEO of "Cheom Cheom"; Norihiro Shimada, an investor who invested on "Cheom Cheom"; Arata Kawamoto, another investor who has been friends with the victim since school; Nanako Inoue, the victim's second wife, meanwhile the person who discovered the body. In addition, everyone that Yamamura mentioned possessed an alibi, except Inoue's wife.
After hearing about the possible suspects in the case, Conan decided to look for some clues. He utilize his criminal tracking glasses and glanced around: he then noticed a wooden house with intricate types of objects and determined that it must have something to do with the crime. He also urged the others to tag along; as they arrived there, they saw the radio machine along with that fallen plate. Conan contemplated and gazed at the alarm display with the time "6AM". As Ran questioned him about the situation, he explained to her about the notion of the "Rube Goldberg Machine", which was basically a set of mechanisms that liaise altogether, performing a simple action but in countless different steps and fashions. He then deduced that most likely, the culprit also used this type of machine to set up this automated murder.
Puzzled, the four of them entered the mansion and began asking the victim's wife some questions. They then learned that the victim had always gotten the habit of drinking coffee in the morning, at the exact spot and time. Kogoro thus deduced that the culprit most likely took advantage over this habit, and devised this complicated mechanical trick, as it would work out quite impressively since the victim's lifestyle was rather fixed. Yamamura then exclaimed that this would make solving this case much easier since they could simply narrow down the suspect circle with only the personnel who knew this habit. However, the victim's wife's proceeding words splattered Yamamura's figments of fantasies - the victim just got to disclose this habit some months ago on the TV, so technically, most people would have known this habit he had.
The victim's wife, Nanako, accused the president of "Cheom Cheom", Tanaka, for this murder. So they visited the restaurant where Tanaka worked. Tanaka kept insisting on his innocence, and reluctantly denying the accusation. After some questioning, he revealed that he really did undergone some unpleasant arguments with the victim not long ago, but that was concerning the Yangnyeom chicken sauce: the restaurants sold yangnyeom fried chicken, and the meal had to be laced with a special sauce that is sweet and spicy. Tanaka then explained that the sauce that he currently uses was invented by the founder of the restaurant, and he had no access to the secret recipe. He begged the victim many times for this recipe, just in case something would happen to him, but his request was being remorselessly turned down by the victim, who was obstinately against offering the recipe to Tanaka.
After visiting the "Cheom Cheom" president, Tanaka, everyone decided to have a word with Kawamoto, an unemployed investor who was friends with the victim. In front of Inspector Yamamura, he justified his integrity by demonstrating to everyone that there was literally no reason for him to murder Inoue, as they were not at odds, or any of the kind. After some unproductive talks, Kawamoto introduced them to another person who has a relationship to the victim - the proprietress of Club Rokumaikai, Manami Teshima. He claimed her to be Inoue's mistress. Accordingly, hoping to gather some useful information, rushed to find her, and fortunately, she was also in the same resort area, so meeting her came very handy in this scenario. Yamamura began to ask her questions. Teshima declared that the victim helped her open the club she now owned. Seeing how close Teshima was to the victim, Kogoro proceeded with his inquiry, asking if she knew who would hold grudges against the victim. Teshima thus responded to him that she in fact could relate to a person - Norihiro Shimada, one of the investors in the "Cheom Cheom" restaurant. Evidently, he had just had a tremendous quarrel with the victim from a few days back, and it happened to take place within her club. Afterwards, the police brought to them some findings regarding this investor. This proved that Teshima was not lying to them: Shimada had a fatal argument with the victim with respect to some company management policy; however, Shimada went too far by pointing fingers at the victim and roaring cruel words such as "I'll kill you". With this piece of information, Kogoro speculated that most likely their fight had escalated into a murder.
At the same time, within Shimada's lodging, a sense of malice was lurking in the room... Just as Shimada was taking a shower, there was a black silhouette acting suspiciously within his house.
Back to Kogoro's end, Conan looked up Shimada on the internet and found out that he was previously a passionate member of the Rube Goldberg Machine Club from the Haido University; and according to the website Conan searched, Shimada was precisely the president of the club that year, which could testify his ability of making Rube Goldberg machines. This did not wash up his innocence but seemed to append a further evidence for him being the murderer. While Yamamura and Kogoro were discussing and considering talking with Shimada, Conan strolled out and peered at the frozen lakes, where the snow was ubiquitous. Teshima showed up behind him and talked with Conan proactively. She told Conan that if he genuinely solved this puzzling Rube Goldberg Machine case, she would love to treat Conan a meal at her club, and Conan chuckled. All of a sudden, Kawamoto interrupted their conversation and started to overwhelm her with harsh words. Teshima, on the other hand, obviously was unwilling to back down, and stuck him with even more aggressive sentences - she declared that Kawamoto had a motive to kill the victim since Kawamoto nearly married Nanako, so in a way, Inoue "stole" a girl out of Kawamoto. Nevertheless, Kawamoto then began to suspect Teshima as the culprit simultaneously, since she had some affairs with Shimada as well, apparently.
Conan heard all of that, and timely, Ran came to pick him up because Kogoro and Inspector Mamamura decided to pursue the prime suspect they currently had, Norihiro Shimada. They went to his lodging community but heard the news that Shimada was out. Conan thus began investigating Shimada's house alone, trying to dig up some valuable clues. He approached his house from the back side, where those big windows were installed. He noticed a pair of footsteps leading to that glass door upon the huge window. Conan was able to enter Shimada's house through that glass window. Within his room, there was an opened liquor and some left-over yanghyeom chicken on the table, and on the floor, right next to Shimada's bed, Conan found a sheet of paper that had the structure of the Rube Goldberg machine drawn on it. Conan promptly understood it was the plan for the complex Rube Goldberg mechanism they saw this morning. This further suggested that it was Shimada who plotted this murder, since he was quite into the Rube Goldberg machine itself.
Yamamura, Kogoro, and Ran got to Shimada's room too. Conan received another prominent clue from Yamamura: Shimada was sketching that Rube Goldberg machine plan in a public area and was apparently showing off to other people, and numerous witnesses could verify this fact. This precisely matched the tossed Rube Goldberg Machine plan paper in Shimada's house.
Yamamura then received a phone call from an anonymous user. The content of this call was that they saw Shimada buying mitarashi dango at a certain outlet mall; although this statement was doubted by Kogoro, they still attempted to go around and search for him. But then, Yamamura received another phone call, informing him that Shimada was also seen in a shop, eating tenzaru soba; but after some time, another phone call claimed Shimada to be buying homemade sausages in a shopping centre. This made Yamamura and Kogoro question the validity of the eyewitness information. With this predicament, they have been mandering around the area like a manipulated marionette. At last, Yamamura was told that a body was found, under the bridge that they were about to cross, and judging by the body's clothes and appearance, that was definitely Norihiro Shimada.

0 Detective Conan Episode 1108: The Secret Hidden By the Cards
Episode 1108: The Secret Hidden By the Cards
Scenario: Within a certain bookstore, the Detective Boys were playing trading cards - Mitsuhiko was having a confrontation with Genta. While they play, Conan, Haibara, Ayumi, and Professor Agasa were watching nearby. On the other side of the table, stood two mystical people... also watching their games in silence.
Mitsuhiko dispatched a rare card called "Shake My Hand" and defeated Genta effortlessly. Agasa then explained that the bookstore used to only sell books exclusively, but now, since those Yaiba trading cards have increased in popularity, some parts of the bookstore are used for playing these trading cards. In addition, they discussed the fact that "some trading cards may become exceedingly expensive", and all of a sudden, the two mystical people who were initially observing on the side interjected with the protagonist group. Apparently, these two people were rather famous in the trading card circle: one of them was named Naoto Masaki; and the other one was named Tsukasa Nitta. Notably, Tsukasa, a lot of people showed esteem to him since he is able to win the trading card games with those cheap cards, whereas his opponents use expensive ones (even though he claimed that it was by virtue of not having money to purhase the expensive ones). As their discussion progressed, another trading card expert appeared - Daigo Zaizen. He is literally the "antonym" of Tsukasa, since he won several games by using ridiculously expensive cards. They seemed to have some arguments, but still decided to have a match with them. Just as they were pleased to begin the game, Daigo went to the toilet. He urged his entourage, Osamu Kuno, to keep an eye on his luxury cards and not let other people touch them.
Seeing Daigo's temporary leave, everyone looked rather inscened due to his inappropriate attitude. Tsukasa proposed that everyone ought to stay away from the table, as it would be annoying if Daigo accused anybody after his return. As such, he told the Detective Boys to go away, and he left the table as well, in the opposite direction.
Surprisingly, while most of the people had their backs facing towards the trading card table, one of the bookshelves (the one right behind Naoto) fell somehow. Immediately afterwards, the fire alarm was activated, and everyone who was inside the bookstore began to panic, raoring and dashing out of the premises. Nevertheless, the bookstore owner declared to everyone that it was a hoax after all - no fire.
However, when they returned to that trading card table, they saw Naoto being crushed under the massive and heavy bookshelf that accidentally fell during the commotion. Professor Agasa examined the body and found that he was dead.
Detective Takagi and Chiba arrived immediately to analyse the crime scene. Conan then saw that Daigo's entourage, Osamu, was looking for something next to the fallen bookshelf. Conan went to inquire of him about it, but he glossed it over and said it was nothing. Conan then scrutinised the bookshelf more closely and saw a bent nail attached to the top of that bookshelf.
On the other hand, Daigo was acting weird. He kept insisting and misleading the police to make them think that the incident was an accident and excluded the possibility of homicide. This made Conan point it out and ask him the intention behind it. Daigo then confessed - he was being blackmailed by the victim regarding how he cheated in one of his trading card games by peeking at his opponent's card beforehand; this was filmed by Naoto and was constantly brought up. What's more, Naoto did the exact same thing to Daigo's entourage, Osamu, as well. Therefore, Daigo possessed a valid motive for murdering Naoto; however, he kept denying committing the crime. Afterwards, Conan almost got slipped while stepping on a Yaiba trading card; Tsukasa helped him by raising him up in the air. At that instant, what Conan saw was the key to solving this case.
0 Detective Conan Episode 1107: I Was Set Up
Episode 1107: I Was Set Up
Scenario: One of Kogoro's clients, Hiroaki Sanada, requested Kogoro to cease the detective service he entrusted the minute they first met as the pre-agreed schuedle. This exceptional behaviour striked Kogoro odd, and asked him the reason behind it deeply. After countless urgings, Sanada explained the logic: three mornings ago, an extotionist Jiro Inumaru kept blackmailing Sanada to expose some not-so-pleasant matters he had done working as a real estate agency manager to his company. But afterwards, Sanada's friend, Daigo Kawakatsu dropped in and manefisted his anger; as a result, he told Sanada to inform him in advance the next time the extortionist Inumaru bothers him. And yesterday morning... Inumaru came to Sanada's house and was about to grab him by the neck, but Sanada pushed him back with appreciable strength, which, unfortunately, led to a tragedy of murdering Inumaru as his head hit the corner of a table; Kawakatsu then arrived there after being informed by Sanada and saw teh scenario, he examined the corpse and confirmed Sanada to be dead.
To help Sanada, Kawakatsu thought up an idea of burying the corpse of Inumaru in a deserted location that would not be easily approached. They went into the woods and dug a hole, ready to place the copse inside, but then Kawakatsu told Sanada to go home and he would take care of the rest, and the reasoning was to help him fabricate an alibi. After all the touch-ups were made, seemingly perfect, and the two of them were resting in Sanada's house, obviously with a tinge of worridness and sorrowness, but at the same time, smirking with triumph in the bottom of their hearts. In that instant, a woman rang the electric bell of the house; and she claimed to be swindled by Inumaru as well, and would want to have her lost money back. If they do not come to an agreement, she will call the police otherwise. Kawakatsu suggested Sanada just silence the woman by giving her an equal amount of money to terminate this dispute, or else things would become bothersome and complicated. And after that, he did so obediently, and the value he gave away was 30 million yen.
After hearing the story, Kogoro perceived something fishy there: only Sanada's friend Kawakatsu knew that he had 30 million yean in cash stored in his safe at home; it was Kawakatsu who claimed Inumaru's death, and Sanada did not interfere with it. Therefore, Kogoro and Conan thought that this was probably a trap set up by the three people (Inumaru, Kawakatsu, and that random woman), to swindle Sanada 30 million yen. On their way to that place where yesterday morning Sanada and Kwakatsu buried the "corpse" of Inumaru, Kogoro told him his asuumption, but Sanada did not believe it, he was convinced that he was the sole murderer in this incident and was about to turn himself in. Kogoro began digging the hole, trying to prove to Sanada that Inumaru might have faked his death, which was glossed over by Kawakatsu. Supposedly, Inumaru's body should not be found if his deduction was correct, but the reality was naughty enough to tease everyone: Inumaru's corpse was found! In the exact same place as Sanada buried it yesterday morning.
Inspector Megure and Detective Takagi arrived there as quick as ever, they found a button that belonged to Kawakatsu along with the corpse of Inumaru. They concluded the case with "Sanada killing Inumaru accidentally and Kawakatsu conspirated him of concealing the body" and took them to the station. Kogoro attempted to justify the deeper connotation behind the case, but Megure neglected it and thought the case must be simple and Kogoro ought not to overthink it.
Conan assuredly knew that the case was not this simple, he began investigating the case in a deeper fashion. He visited Sanada's residence and inquired of Sanada's housekeeper, Sueko Fueki. She was not helping out in Sanada's house yesterday because she went to stay overnight at her son's house. When Conan was mandering around Sanada's house, he found a receipt from a department store, and saw a photo of Sanada and his wife. He began to ask the housekeeper, Fueki, about the woman within that photo. And he got the answer that Sanada's wife passed away ten years ago, in an unmitigated accident - back then, a thief broke into the house and was seen by Sanada's wife, the culprit pushed her and fled, resulting in the injury of her leg. This was evidently the kicker of her falling down the stairs half a month later...
Before leaving the police station, the housekeeper felt regretful and disclosed that she should not have left the house. After listening to Sanada, who gave her a present offered by a friend of his from Hokkaido, and asked her to stay a night at her son's home by taking the present along. She could not anticipate the chaos that had been constructed over merely a single night. Despite that, Conan still parted ways with the housekeeper and decided when to reunite with Kogoro.
On Kogoro's end, he had caught the woman who took part to swindling Sanada; and she admitted the sin effortlessly. But she claimed that she knew nothing about the follow-ups, and she stated that the only time the three of them stayed together was on Wednesday night, at a certain izakaya. This final sentence had cleared all the perplexity within Conan's mind. His glasses shone, reflecting the intense sunlight illuminating upon it - he found the truth.

0 Detective Conan Episode 1104: The Real Culprit is on The Run
Episode 1104: The Real Culprit is on The Run
Scenario: On another peaceful morning, the Detective Boys were hanging out on the park, playing football cheerfully, while rejoicing the cozy day. Accidentally, Genta used excessive strength to kick the football, which led the ball to land midst the bush. Ayumi thus went inside to fetch the football. And luckily, she found the ball effortless, but just as she raised her head to observe the vincinity, she was utterly astounded - right next to the fallen football, there was a rather "fresh" corpse lying on the ground...
He was hit by a large rock, evidently picked up from the park. An abundance of blood was splattered around the crime scene. |
According to the investigation by Detective Takagi, the victim is apparently a loan shark and runs a financial business in a nearby building. He always wears luxury clothes and equips expensive accessories (such as his golden watch); however, they found his wallet in his dead body to be empty, and those so-called luxury goods disappeared as well. So they boldly assume the murder to be a robbery, and from someone who probably could not afford the high interest rate of the loan the victim offered.
Conan claimed that no one entered his sight ever since two o'clock, when the Detective Boys began playing football in the park, which means, it would not be possible for the culprit to flee after murdering Takamatsu. Despite that, Genta pointed out a shortcut path he knew for exiting this park - this offered Conan a breaking point in this elusive case. He found some blood on the plant, nearby the path they took to exit the park, so it could be deduced that instead of escaping through the proper gateway, the culprit used the shortcut. Following the traits left by the culprit, since there were loads of blood ejected from the crime scene, the culprit must have a considerable amount of blood on them, traces of blood are bound to be retained on his getaway. And, in fact, there were dozens! Ayumi used her perceptive keen eye and found several of them, until the blood stain indications ended. On the huge crossing road, they met Takagi and Chiba again, and learned the fact that the investigation might come into a halt due to the miniscule clues they had found.
Conan felt rather discouraged; he compromised, he insticaged everyone to go home. Mitsuhiko was puzzled: he could not believe that Conan actually gave up on cracking the case, which shocked him completely. Haibara explained that probably Conan realised the case was not suitable for a detective to unravel, as it is a random indiscriminate murder committed by a random culprit, which does not have any relationship to the victim, so victim's friend circle could not be inquired about, and as a result, no suspects can be narrowed down to. At this instant, they just got to see a lady cleaning the mess near a metal pole; it was supposedly caused by a guy riding a bicycle, who bumped into the pole. Conan's sorrow had transformed into pure chuckle in just a heartbeat - he got it, the truth, and the trick the culprit used to flee in the middle of the city pavement with a bunch of witnesses, and had a large amount of blood stained on their clothes.

0 Detective Conan Episode 1103: The Teen Novel That Smells Like Guilt
Episode 1103: The Teen Novel That Smells Like Guilt
Scenario: This time, Kogoro took over an unusual affair, from a well-known novelist who specialises in teen novels particularly, named Chu Masamura. He requested Kogoro to investigate regarding a deceased, who is called Taizo Yasuki, who died recently during a car accident. He persistantly emphasised his need, to ascertain all of the late Yasuki's friends and acquaintances, especially those "questionable" ones.
Kogoro thus set off to work, he inquired around the Yasuki residence and saw a man dressed in a formal suit, talking to Yasuki's mother, and that person turned out to be the new Haido City assembly member, who is named Hiroki Kataoka. So Kogoro interviewed him with some questions within his office. Kataoka confessed the fact that Yasuki and he were classmates during high school, but not very close, apparently. But no matter how Kogoro inquired further, the assembly member insisted on the same statement, so he had to call off the investigation forcibly right there. Before leaving, Kataoka handed Kogoro some flyers to help spread the news about him being the new assembly member for Haido City.
Afterwards, Kogoro learned that Yasuki loved reading books in bookstores, but when Kogoro reached out the bookstore owner, the owner said that Yasuki had quit the bookstore for some time already, with the reason of writing his own novel. Everything had returned to the starting point - novel, so Kogoro visited his client Masamura's apartment. As he pushed the door open, what he saw was only Masamura's cold dead body lying in front of the apartment entrance.
Right beside the victim, there was a tiny notebook deposited, which has "215, 222, SAME" written on it. |
Kogoro felt exceedingly confounded, and was still reckoning the meaning with regards to the casual characters on the notebook, and failed to notice the culprit behind him... The culprit sprayed pepper particles onto Kogoro's face and knocked him down afterwards.

In Haido Central Hospital, Kogoro was being awakened by Ran and Conan. Inspector Megure was accompanying him as well, whilst checking out Kogoro's condition. Although he was prayed by the culprit with pepper sprays, his health issue was not problematic. When Conan asked him about the culprit's identity, Kogoro murmured that he did not get the chance to see the face of the culprit. Just at this instant, Conan perceived that the door of Kogoro's sickhouse slid faintly, but when he went to check, no one was outside. Is this an illusion or a reality?According to Megure, Masamura has been receiving threatening letters for months now; most of them were telling him to cease the serialisation of his new novel, which was about a group of boys attacking adults with metal bats as though it were a game, and the setting was from 20 years ago. On the other side, Takagi called upon Yasuki's house and inquired of Tasuki's mother, about the mystical novel he had been writing before his death. The name of it was "Middle-aged Man Hunting Days".
Based on this title, Kogoro was able to surmise that, Masamura probably plagiarised Yasuki's manuscript when he showed him for suggestions; this explains why he would only dare to begin serialising this novel after Yasuki's death. What is more, after some time, he started to receive numerous threatening letters, which made him think that the plot within Tasuki's novel might not be made-up, but rather, a real-life experience of his. In this aspect, the people sending those threatening letters might be the other perpetrators who were involved in that incident 20 years ago. Therefore, Masamura approached Kogoro to investigate Yasuki's friend circle, in order to back up his assumption.

Kataoka's fliers and the threatening letter. |
The content of the threatening letter is as follows:
- Cease serialisation of your novel "Scary Little Monsters" in "Del Mondo" magazine immediately.
- If you refuse to comply, consider yourself forfeit!
- Not just yours either. Your family and friends, too. Consider yourself forfeit!
It was time for Kogoro to take the temperature, and the nurse walked into Kogoro's sick house and remarked that Kogoro really looked like his late father, and he showed a photo of her and his father. In that photo, she was holding a stuffed toy shark in her hand, smiling along with her father. Later on, Conan solved the "code" written on Masamura's notebook. He offered that all clues were inside the novel that Masamura was serialising - 215 is the date of when that described incident in the novel took place. It was also snowy on that day; the man that the boys attacked had a stuffed shark, which matches the romanji, S-A-M-E. But there was still a mystery unsolved regarding the 222.
Takagi confirmed the alibis of the two suspects; they all had one when Masamura was murdered. Kogoro also pondered deeply: how could the culprit enter Masamura's apartment with him on guard due to the received thretening letters? After some thinking, Conan dashed into the library and was searching for something on the computer; it was about the incident from 20 years ago. But he realised that there were not even a tinge of snowflakes falling on the 15th of February, and instead, the attack actually happened on the 22nd of February, according to the online newpaper Conan found. After looking depper into it, he figuered out the truth completely, and was about to reveal the unmitigated tragedy...
