Episode 680: Cactus Rhapsody

Scenario: Sonoko, Ran, and Conan are visiting a cacti greenhouse. The sons of the owner interrupt with angry outbursts about being removed from their father's will. The owner explains that he's disappointed in his sons living off his fortune and that he will leave everything to the botanical garden. The security alarm later rings and the son Yasuyuki is found standing over his father's dead body. All clues point to him as the culprit, but the Queen of Deduction reveals that Misa, the housekeeper, killed the owner and used the greenhouse temperature settings to trigger the security alarm to create a time alibi.

At the greenhouse, the wealthy property owner named Zenzou Sunada is showing Conan, Ran, and Sonoko the golden barrel cactus and it blooms flowers after 50 years. Zenzou raised it when it was small when he was Ran's age. He was able to get it big and make the flowers bloom. In the past of the greenhouse, Sonoko came with her father when she was a little baby and she barely walked. There is a flower on top of the golden barrel cactus and it looks as if it's trapped by thorns on top. The yellow ones are growing. Not just only that, Zenzou has lots of expensive cactuses in the greenhouse and he sets up the security alarm system. After night falls, only he can deactivate the system with his home security card. He always keeps the card in his breast pocket and he thinks it feels most reassuring. Suddenly, Zenzou's two sons named Naoki and Yasuyuki appear and they heard from the lawyer that Zenzou rewrite the will. They want to know why but Zenzou tells his sons to be quiet because he has guests. After that, they left. Suddenly, Zenzou notice the ceramic pots and calls his housekeeper named Yashiro to come at once. He wants her to take them away in a big fuss. Yashiro apologizes and takes the pots away. Zenzou is now going back home but Ran, Sonoko, and Conan can stick around in the greenhouse.

At the Sunada household, Yasuyuki is looking for the inheritance in Zenzou's room while in the dark. Zenzou came by turning the lights on and he has the inheritance in his possession. He's not going to give it to his sons. He's going to give the inheritance and his cactuses to the botanical garden. While they were arguing, Naoki is eavesdropping from outside the room.

At the greenhouse, Conan, Ran, and Sonoko are just looking at the hot water radiator/heater. When Sonoko touches it, it burns her hand.

Meanwhile at the Sunada household, Zenzou tells Yasuyuki that he won't change the will unless Yasuyuki changes his golfer profession into something else. After Yasuyuki leaves the room, he found Naoki. Yasuyuki knows that Naoki is after the inheritance also. While they were talking about wanting the money, Zenzou tells them to be quiet and he dislikes about Yasuyuki and Naoki talking about money. Naoki told Zenzou that he got it wrong that he is just worried about him. Zenzou calls Naoki a liar and he heard that his new company is in the major dept. Naoki whispers to Yasuyuki that's useless trying to pick a fight with their father. They planned that they will convince him later tonight.

Sonoko, Ran, and Conan arrives in the Sunada household. When Conan enters, he accidentally touched the golf bag with his foot while not looking and the golf bag fells on Conan. Yasuyuki picks it up and they felt sorry about it. Ran found the golf mark on the floor so she picks it up and gives it to Yasuyuki. Yasuyuki asks Yashiro to bring his dinner to his room while carrying his golf bag and Yashiro understands.

After dinner, Sonoko is so stuffed that she couldn't eat another bite. Conan is watching the soccer game on tv. Yasuyuki will be going out for practicing golf and Naoki will be checking out the abandoned car in the garage. Ran thanks Yashiro for the food and wonders that she could share the gravy sauce recipe. Sonoko smiles and wonders who is she going to make it for like Shinichi. Ran blushes and tells Sonoko that it's not like that. Sonoko tells Yashiro that she and her friends will be leaving and asks that Zenzou is still in the greenhouse. Yashiro says yes that ever since Zenzou always take of the cactuses everyday from 8 am to 9 pm. Ran will go to him by saying goodbye but Yashiro can't let her do it because Zenzou told Yashiro not to let anyone in until 8:30 so they're going to have to wait a little longer.

Suddenly, the greenhouse alarm rang and they went to check it out what's going on. At the front of the greenhouse, there's Yasuyuki with the shock face. They arrived and they see that Yasuyuki has the will from Zenzou. When they enter the greenhouse, they found the dead body of Zenzou lying on the ground.

Jugo Yokomizo and the police have arrived at the crime scene to investigate. They confirmed that the death was most likely caused by a beating with a shovel as a murder weapon. The time of death is between 8:00 to 8:30 pm. Yokomizo tells Ran and Sonoko to tell him what the situation was when they first found the victim. They said that after dinner, during their conversation, around 8:30, the alarm went off. Then, with Yashiro, they ran to the greenhouse. In front of the greenhouse, they found Yasuyuki. When they enter the greenhouse, they found Zenzou dead. After Yokomizo finishes getting the testimony from Sonoko, Ran, and Conan, he tells the other police detective that they're going to ask everyone else who's involved.

Yasuyuki says that because of the alarm went off, he frantically went inside and he saw his father lying on the ground. Yokomizo asks that why was Yasuyuki said he will go out golfing was at the greenhouse. It's because Yasuyuki was called to the greenhouse in a text message. He received the text at 8:20 pm. On Zenzou's cellphone, there's a sent text to Yasuyuki at 8:20 pm. Which means that Zenzou must've been alive until then. Yokomizo found the golf mark near to the victim and it currently belongs to Yasuyuki which makes him the main suspect. Yasuyuki claims that he didn't do it. Yokomizo deduces that after Zenzou contacted Yasuyuki, Yasuyuki pretended to go out golfing, and went to the greenhouse instead. After meeting with Zenzou, he got into an argument about the will. Then, he lost his temper, grabbed a nearby shovel, and beat him to death. In order to receive the inheritance, he stole the will and escape. At that time, he activated the security system and so the alarm went off. Yasuyuki denies it after hearing Yokomizo's deduction. All of a sudden, Conan mentions that inside Zenzou's breast pocket, there should have been a deactivation card. He wonders why didn't Yasuyuki steal it too. If he did, the alarm wouldn't have gone off. Furthermore, there's a fallen cactus near Zenzou. When Conan, Ran, and Sonoko first came to the greenhouse, it wasn't tipped over. The spilled dirt from the pot is completely dry. Also, there was a cactus thorn stuck near Zenzou's chest. Until sudden, Yokomizo tells Conan that's enough and kids shouldn't be hanging around the crime scene.

Conan notice the top of the golden barrel cactus that the yellow flowers have been wilted. He found two ceramic pots on the radiator and looks up the ceiling. Conan finally figured out the real truth of this case.

Scenario: Conan luckily finds a witness who saw Ran studying her lines providing her with a solid alibi. One of the actors, Sazanami, is attacked later that night and the scriptwriter's fingerprints are found on his belongings. Conan follows the clues in the hidden messages and gathers everyone at the theater. Sleeping Kogoro reveals that the scriptwriter discovered that Sazanami and the prop technician were partners in the serial thefts and feared for his life. The prop technician understood the hidden messages and tried to run away. He pointed at Ran because the role she was playing held the clues to identifying Sazanami.

In the hospital, Sakota is lying on the bed to get his treatment done. There's a high possibility that Sakota was struck with bare hands. The Nagasaki police took in the karate girl with a black belt, Ran, who was the main suspect to the station for questioning. Ran claims that she didn't do it and she was memorizing her lines alone. The police asks Ran that can someone verify it. Ran remembers that something yellow passes by her but she can't remember clearly. Conan is going to find someone who can prove Ran's innocent. When Conan went to the area where Ran memorized her lines while sitting on the bench, the only thing that's yellow around is the flowers. The only option is to find a witness who saw Ran during the time of the incident.

While Conan's searching, he found the statue of Puccini, the composer of Madame Butterfly and the statue of Tamaki Miura, the person who acted as the heroin of Madame Butterfly. Conan remembers Miura from the script and that's the connection of Ote Miura, the character that Ran played. Sakota was also an opera lover. Suddenly, the Nagasaki saruku guide named Shoukichi Shimizu is showing the tourists the statue of Teiko Kiwa, the Japanese person who was acted in Madame Butterfly other than Tamaki Miura. When Conan is thinking about Tamaki Miura and Teiko Kiwa, he now knows it's Ote Miura. Also, Conan notices that Shimizu is wearing a yellow coat. When he asks Shimizu about remembering Ran sitting on the bench while he is showing the picture of Ran to him, he remembers. Conan finally found someone who can prove that Ran is innocent. So when he brought Shimizu to the police, Ran's suspicions were lifted. However, Conan wonders why did Sakota at that time points at Ran as the culprit.

Ooki came with more news that he heard this from the police. It seems a person who looks like Tatsumi has been spotted nearby. After hearing a scream from a parking lot, he was seen running away. Futaba thinks it's a lie that she knows that Tatsumi wouldn't do such a thing. Sakakibara asks Kogoro about the drama's culprit but until sudden, Conan wonders why Sakota was at the parking lot. If he's heading home, it would be too soon. The script arrived recently and there are still more filming to do. He looked as if he was sneaking around to run away. Kogoro has finally got it and he deduces that after reading the script, Sakota realized he was in danger, so he tried to run away. In other words, Tatsumi thought Sakota will be attacked, so he sprinkled in a message inside the script. Most likely, the number 9 as the dying message is the key. The meaning of number 9 points to Futaba Nanao. It's simple addition. If you add 7 from Nanao (Nana = 7) and 2 from Futaba (Futa = 2), you get 9. In other words, "Futaba is targeting you, so be careful," was the message. Futaba doesn't believe that and Kogoro asks why did she abruptly stop being their guide is because she wants to find Tatsumi as soon as possible in order to silence him just like what he did to Sakota. Futaba tells Kogoro that he's wrong and the real reason is because she was really worried about Tatsumi. Yamashita thinks it's ridiculous and she takes her leave. Ooki remembers that Yamashita was an action actress during her younger days. She can also do some Chinese martial arts. At that time, Sazanami was doing boxing. All the actors and tv workers are just talking about in 20 years ago. Conan just asks that is it true that last night, Andrew said Tatsumi might have disliked the idea of making Tsuru married to Glover. Ooki then said no that it can't be. Sakakibara then said that the one who wanted to was Tatsumi. Andrew asks that is it true and Sakakibara says yeah but it was an unusual thing for him to do.

Later at night in Mt. Inasa: Observatory, someone attacks Sazanami down the stairs and got hurt. At the treatment room of the hospital, Sazanami is still okay while getting a treatment done. Sazanami tells the police that he wanted to view the prideful scenery of Nagasaki. Then suddenly, he was attacked by someone. He snatched the strap while he was struggling. It seems that Tatsumi's fingerprints were found on the strap. The strap is a silver, heart shaped.

The next day, the drama is going to be about the kids writing the kanji of number 9. While Conan remembers about how to write the kanji of number 9, he notice something. Conan looks over the script and he finally figured it out what the real dying message means.

In Nakashima River, there lives a monster. The monster's weakness is the second tooth on the bottom left. Conan wonders what that means. When he checks through the glasses on Megane Bridge, he now knows what it means. Later at night, Conan went to the river and found something. When Conan goes back, he found Yamashita. Conan checks where did she come from and smiles.

The next day, the tv workers received a letter from Tatsumi. It said that he will hand the remaining script at Oshirasu, so come. In the museum of history and culture, everyone's gathered and they are waiting for Tatsumi to come. Sazanami is also there and his injuries has been healed so he's definitely okay.

Scenario: Ran wins a trip to Nagasaki with Mouri and Conan. While touring the city, they unintentionally interrupt the filming of a mystery drama. Mouri is hired as a consultant to figure out the story's ending because the scriptwriter disappeared. The group examines the scriptwriter's room and finds newspaper clippings of a real case of serial thefts. The group spots the scriptwriter but he runs off before they can catch up to him. When the next part of the script is e-mailed to the crew, Ran and Conan are dragged in as extras. Conan realizes that the script contains hidden messages. The prop technician is attacked and he points at Ran with his dying breath.

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro must've slip through time (not literally). Ran won a prize at a shopping district lottery. Today, they came to Nagasaki. They are some places that tourists can always visit like there's Confucius Temple Nagasaki - China's History's Museum, Oura Church, or Glover Garden. In Glover Garden, that Ryoma Sakamoto and the Scottish man was also a contribution to the Bakumatsu era, Thomas Blake Glover's mansion is there. It's a popular place to visit in Nagasaki.

Meanwhile, Ran is looking for the heart-stone. There are two heart shaped stones. If you find it as a couple, you'll marry or if you touch it, you'll fall in love. There are various kinds of myths. After Ran found it, they heard a scream from the house and someone cried out, "murderer!" Kogoro went inside to check what's going on. Before Conan and Ran are about to go in, they found some wires on the ground. Kogoro found the dead body but it's actually an actor who's playing dead. When the actor opened his eyes, Kogoro got freaked out and someone cried out, "Cut!" The tv drama director named Sakakibara got angry at Kogoro for ruining the drama. Ran apologizes to the tv workers and Conan understands what's going on. With the setting as the Bakumatsu era in Nagasaki, was a shoot for a two hour television, mystery drama. In Glover's residence, the murder case occurs. Ryoma Sakamoto, who was sheltered in the mansion, will be a detective. The young female doctor, Ine Karasuma, as the assistant. In order to clear the suspicion, they will solve the case; that's will the story be about. They are two actors named Kyounosuke Sasahara playing as Ryoma Sakamoto and Andrew Hatta playing as Glover. Finally, they are two actresses named Benichiyo Yamashita playing as Tsuru and Futaba Nanao playing as Ine Karasuma. After they're done with the investigating part, they went outside and the next part is going to be about the victim's business acquaintance, Chubei Soneya's appearance scene which Choujirou Sazanami the actor is going to play as Soneya.

Suddenely, the producer named Ooki from the drama production company had some terrible news that the scriptwriter named Tatsumi ran off. He has written many plays and he's a veteran. The drama has no original work to base off of, so it's Tatsumi's original. The script wasn't finished, yet the filming began. Not to mention that even the culprit was unknown to everybody except Tatsumi. Ooki wants Kogoro to find the mystery drama's culprit. If the drama gets cancelled, his company will close down for good.

Kogoro, Ran, and Conan went to the Hotel Papillon to find it but Kogoro thinks it's impossible. Conan opens the closet and found some note marks on newspaper articles. Conan confirms it's an art burglary. In other words, the culprit could be an art thief. However, the current script doesn't occur at all.

In the café, Kogoro is so tired that he can't find any clues and he just jump to the conclusion that the culprit is the thief. Suddenly, Andrew Hatta appears but Kogoro, Ran, and Conan don't recognize him because when they met Andrew at the drama, he was wearing a wig. When he told them who he is, they became surprised. To him without make-up looks more like Glover's statue than with make-up. Conan remembered correctly, Glover was helping Ryoma and he was about 30 years old. When Andrew took a seat with them, he mentions about Ooki's production company is suffering a bit. That's why for the film's actors using Ooki and Sakakibara's connection, most of them are paid for less than usual. Ooki, Sakakibara, Ichiyou, Sazanami, and Andrew are all old friends together. They worked together in the past before they were popular. Of course, Tatsumi is also one of them. The only casting position for Andrew was Glover. The character Tsuru was turned into a mature couple. Tatsumi have not like it and he's a realist.

The next day, Conan asks Ooki and Sakakibara about the newspaper articles about art burglary and they have no clue about it. In the museum of history and culture, Futaba is going to give Kogoro, Ran, and Conan sightseeing around her hometown, Nagasaki. She's going to be their guide. For now, her part in the current script is done. This time, they used the pictures and memos from Tatsumi's drama and they visited all kinds of places. They went to visit Kameyama Shachu Memorial Museum, Kazagashira Park - Ryoma Sakamoto's statue, Nagasaki Kite Museum, and Megane Bridge. After visiting places, they went to the place where they made the first chanpon (noodle dish) called Shikairou so they're going to have lunch. When they are at the table waiting for saraudon coming, Ran thinks Futaba's angel necklace is very cute. She bought it at the shop near Glover Garden. While eating, Conan notice that Futaba seems very depress. She mentions that a few days ago, Tatsumi almost got ran over by a car. He said that somebody pushed him. Tatsumi might have felt in danger, so he disappeared.

At the Nagasaki Station, Futaba found Tatsumi and they went after him. After that, they lost him. Kogoro got a call from Ooki that he got a text with more script from Tatsumi, but it's still incomplete. In the capitan room, the tv workers are following the script that the second murder was written inside. The scene is Dejima's Capitan Room. The victim was a hired spy by the Nagasaki police. The dying message of 9 in kanji was left behind.

Ooki and Sakakibara claim that they didn't mess up the schedule, but their problem arises recently. With no warning, a new character called Ote (Miura's daughter) appears in the drama. The book contains a lot of lines and Sakakibara believes it will be an important character. They don't have the actress to play as Ote but they don't have the money and time to get somebody from Tokyo. But they had an idea so they want Ran to play the character and she'll practice the line from the script. She gets kind of nervous also.

After the drama, Ran thinks it's weird for the line saying that the number will solve everything. Many of the actors' names have number in it. Andrew Hatta as Glover (Ha = 8), Benichiyo Yamashita as Tsuru (chi = 1000), and Futaba Nanao (Nana = 7). The staffs have numbers in their names also. Taizou Ooki (zou = 3), and Kazuomi Sakota the props master (Kazu = 1).

When Conan's looking over the script, he figured out that the phrases could be a message from Tatsumi. The character Ote Miura was created just to inform that the only thing it could be is about why he suddenly disappeared. Ran is still reading the script and all the tourists are just passing her. Later, Sakota got punched by someone and crashed through the boxes and suitcases. The group found him lying on the floor and he's in critical condition. Sakakibara asks Sakota who did this to him. Sakota then just point at Ran as the culprit and lost consciousness.

Episode 677: The Sandy Beach with No Footprints

Scenario: Mouri, Ran, and Conan try surfing for the first time with their surf instructor and her much older husband. The couple soon gets into a heated argument over the safety of surfing with an approaching storm, hinting at a troubled relationship. They find the wife dead on the beach the next morning. The absence of footprints suggest a surfing accident. Conan soon observes clues indicating foul play. Sleeping Kogoro reveals that the husband murdered his wife and carried her body to the beach without leaving footprints by crawling inside a cardboard wheel.

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro went to Ohama Coast from Beika Street for two hours and they are going to have fun surfing at the beach. First of all, the reason why Kogoro wants to go surfing is because of the woman named Nagisa Imaoka. She invited Kogoro. While at the beach, Nagisa is pretty good at surfing.

After surfing, they went back to the Surf Shop Seagull to take a break and the man named Kaishiro Imaoka recognized the famous detective, Kogoro Mouri. Kogoro still wants to continue surfing. Conan found the moon phase calendar on the wall and tonight is going to be a spring tide. The place, Ohama Coast, is famous for the large high tides and low tides. Kogoro thought Nagisa is Kaishiro's daughter but it's actually his wife. When Nagisa, Ran, and Conan are about to go back surfing, Kaishiro tells them to stop because he heard the forecast in the car that the storm is coming. When they looked through the window, they still see the waves that it is still normal size. Ran heard that it will be fun if there are few waves. Kaishiro thinks they are people like that but he's against it. He mentions that they are bunch of people who lost their lives to tall waves. They should never underestimate the ocean. Nagisa argues with Kaishiro that if he keeps saying such childish things, people will never enjoy surfing. Then, Kaishiro argues back to Nagisa to stop being so ignorant. After the argument, Kaishiro left, and Nagisa thinks Kaishiro is just an old geezer who likes to play with plastic models. Nagisa isn't afraid of the tall waves and she still has the guts to go surfing. Since they can't go surfing, they'll have to wait till tomorrow morning.

Later, the storm has arrived and in the lodge, Conan is stepping on Kogoro's back for massage. While massaging, Ran mentions that Nagisa used to be the surf shop's customer. According to the landlord, she would come challenge the waves frequently. Then three years ago, she got conquered by the waves instead. Suddenly, Kaishiro entered the lodge and told Kogoro that Nagisa is missing. She must've gone surfing during the storm. Conan sees Kaishiro's cell phone in his shirt pocket that it's flashing. Kaishiro checks it out and he got a text from Nagisa. It says, "Sorry for not getting permission. At a karaoke bar. Don't worry." They felt relieved that she didn't go surfing during the storm.

The next morning, the storm is over and it's a beautiful day. Kogoro, Ran, and Conan are just taking a walk on the beach. While walking, they found Nagisa and she is found dead.

Kogoro tells Ran to call the police and tells Conan to get Kaishiro. He also tells Conan to bring cardboard boxes or something to prevent more footprints just in case. They were no footprints around Nagisa's body until Kogoro, Ran, and Conan came near the body.

When the police arrived to investigate, Kaishiro is crying over Nagisa's death. While Kaishiro's crying, Conan notice that there's sand on Kaishiro's back shirt. The police recognize Kogoro and they might get an autograph from him later.

While checking the dead body inside the shop, Kogoro deduces that it is an unfortunate accident. Nagisa couldn't sit still after seeing the huge waves. That's when she texted a lie about going to a karaoke bar to Kaishiro. She wore the shop's wetsuit, grabbed the shop's surfboard, and left through the backdoor towards the ocean. Conan asks that why didn't Nagisa not wear her own wetsuit. Kaishiro answers that's probably because she thought he would notice it missing. She knew if Kaishiro finds out, he would stop her. While Nagisa was enjoying surfing, a tall wave engulfed her. Then, the leash cord wrapped around her neck. Furthermore, the waves pulled on the cord, eventually strangling her. Conan mentions that the strangle mark goes into the wetsuit. Kogoro thinks the cord going inside the wetsuit is a possibility. Conan then said the wetsuit is on tightly stuck to the body, preventing any water inside. Kogoro then tells Conan to go away to continue his own deduction. Kogoro deduces that the surfboard went missing, and Nagisa came back to Kaishiro's coast for him. Conan notices something strange about Nagisa's toenail. When Ran and the detective take a look at Nagisa's toenail, her right toenails are painted with yellow nail polish but her left toenails are unfinished. Conan just remembered something. While he was calling Kaishiro that he found Nagisa's dead body at the beach and getting a cardboard, he found the bag with yellow marks. When he goes back checking it, he has no doubt about it. When he went back to the beach, he ask the policeman about the footprints in the range of 100 km from the corpse. The policeman confirms there weren't any footprints and it was a smooth beach. Conan is still thinking how did Nagisa's dead body get to the beach with no footprints until sudden, he found the dead crab. It was smashed down by something. Conan remembered that there is a crane truck model that's displayed in the shop. When he went back inside the shop, Conan found the cardboard that has a crab mark on it and he finally solved the case.

The husband afraid of, that his wife would reveal everything, tried to commit suicide but was stopped by Conan and Haibara. He confesses that he tried to his wife. After the confession Conan tells him about the true messages that his wife sent to his colleagues and also tells that his wife is pregnant although she is not aware of it. Meanwhile after recovery the wife changes her statement to prevent her husband from going to jail.

Scenario: The detective boys are invited by a couple for barbecue. After eating the husband was looking for his phone get engaged into a quarrel with his wife. Meanwhile, Ayumi finds the cellphone and goes to return it to the couple finding the wife trying to kill her husband. As the detective boys go into the house they find the wife was lying on the ground stabbed in the heart.

After the couple went inside the house, Ayumi saw the wife threaten her spouse with a knife. Shortly later she was stabbed in the chest. Is this self-defense?

Tegawa overhears their conversation and holds Conan at gunpoint ordering Urakawa to drive. Subaru, Tooru, and Masumi pursue and apprehend Tegawa. From overhead, Vermouth calls one of them, addressing them as Bourbon and reminding Bourbon to follow through with their promise. Conan figures out who amongst the three women is the third robber.

Scenario: Conan stops feigning his sleep and tells his kidnapper she is actually Serina Urakawa and that Kei Katshitsuka was the dead man at the agency; his deduction stemmed from a phone call to Shouno's relatives to find out the identity of his girlfriend. Conan explains that Katshitsuka and the man in the apartment were two of the three robbers. Urakawa learned from Shouno that Katshitsuka was one of the robbers. When visiting his apartment, she meets second robber whom she killed in self defense. After learning that Katshitsuka plans on meeting with Kogoro to find out which locker the money was hidden in, she attempts to interrogate him and fashions his murder as a suicide by drugging him, placing the gun in his hands, and pulling the trigger with a string. As for the third robber, Urakawa plans on visiting the three female contacts found on Katshitsuka's phone to determine which one is the culprit. Meanwhile, Kogoro, Ran, and Amuro also discover that information and begin their travel there.

Kogoro, Ran and Amuro try to unlock the PC in Kei's apartment while Subaru, Agasa and Haibara are on their way to follow Conan. Afterwards, Kogoro and the two unlock the PC. In the middle of Kei driving, Conan wakes up, having in fact tricked her into believing that he was unconscious, and tells Kei that he can help her find the woman in the group, the last of the robbers. Surprised by Conan, she asked how did he wake up, to which Conan answered that he purposely spilt the juice because there was no *pop* sound when he opened the cap, implying that is was already opened and that Kei might have put something in it before handing it to him, thus pretending to sleep. After some time of talk between him and Kei, during which he makes her promise she won't kill the last one, they went to the apartments of the three women who were in the phonebook of the man who committed suicide at Mouri's detective agency. Sera also follows Kogoro discreetly and is seen by Amuro.

Scenario: Arriving at Katshitsuka's home, Ran receives a phone call from Masumi. The phone call receives noise which Tooru deduces to indicate the house is bugged. While Kogoro, Ran, and Tooru investigate the house, Conan notices Katshitsuka sneaking out and accompanies her for a drive. Meanwhile, Tooru finds a dead man in the apartment and realizes he was the one actually living there. Meanwhile, Katshitsuka drugs Conan to sleep and sends a ransom to Kogoro to prevent him from calling the police. The three at the apartment discover the victim has recordings of a recent bank robbery indicating he was related to it and that the victim of the bank robbery, Kenya Shouno, was the man in the picture with Katshitsuka. Ran tells Agasa to use the tracker to find Conan. Agasa, Haibara, and Subaru proceed to follow the signal. Meanwhile, Masumi also decides to search for Conan.

The group escort Kei Kashitsuka back to her condo. Kei goes to tidy up her room but secretly leaves the condo with Conan following her. While Kogoro, Ran and Amuro are waiting for Kei, they start searching for listening devices as when Masumi called Ran the former's voice wasn't clearly audible.

Locating the final listening device in a suitcase under the bed, Kogoro, Ran, and Amuro open it to find a man beaten to death inside it. Later they receive an email from Kei Kashitsuka that orders them not to attempt to find her or she won't guarantee Conan's safety.

Kashitsuka drugged Conan with a fruit juice laced with sleeping pills then sent a warning email to Kogoro that she will release him at dawn, unless they attempt to find her. Ran contacted Agasa for help while Kogoro and Amuro discovered more information.

A few days ago, a robbery was committed at the bank where Kenya Shouno, Kei Kashitsuka's older brother, worked. Kenya himself was shot by one of the robber when he attempt to stop them. The robbers' stolen money for total of 200 million yens has yet to be found.

Scenario: Kogoro prepares to meet with the client Kei Katshitsuka. While waiting, he receives mail of Katshitsuka who changes their meeting location to a local restaurant. There, Kogoro realizes the cell phone address is different from the first message he received from the client. He, along with Tooru, Ran, and Conan return to the agency where they discover Katshitsuka tied up with her kidnapper dead. The police arrive and determine the kidnapper killed himself since no gunpowder was found on Katshitsuka. The four accompany Katshitsuka home; during the ride, Conan ponders on why the kidnapper's wallet was full of coins and small bills, his cellphone having only a history of one message and the lack of gunpowder on Katshitsuka.

While Kogoro and the group are watching a news report on a recent bank robbery, Amuro stops by with sandwiches from Café Poirot after finishing his part time job for the day. After commenting on the robbery, Amuro reveals that he wants the scoop on Kogoro's newest case request after deducing from Kogoro's appearance and habits that Kogoro had a case. Kogoro gets a text from the client requesting that Kogoro switch the meeting location to Café Columbo, and Amuro goes with them after changing out of his work clothes.

At Columbo, Kogoro explains to Amuro the request was to find the locker a key belongs to. The client fails to show, so Amuro, Kogoro, Conan, and Ran go back to the Mouri Detective Agency to make sure the client didn't actually turn up there instead. When Amuro arrives at the agency, he and Conan notice someone had broken in and appeared to have intercepted the client while they were out. Stepping outside, Amuro explains his deductions to the rest of the gang and that the culprit is hiding in the restroom. Before Amuro can open the bathroom door, a gunshot rings out, and Conan rushes in to find a dead man who apparently committed suicide with a gun and a taped-up crying woman.

When Conan and the group went inside, they found Kashituka who's been taped-up. They also found the dead man holding the gun. It seems he committed suicide.

Afterwards, Haibara, Ayumi, Mitsuhiko, and Genta are discovered to be safe and that the treasure hidden in the tower was a giant kaleidoscope.

Scenario: Ran's karate senpai, Kyodo Nanami, invites the Detective Boys for a treasure hunt at her home. Once there, they discover the fact that the treasure is very likely hidden in the Dark Tower. However, there aren't any entrances nor windows to enter the tower with. Around the estate, they also discover that this house has been equipped with various tricks and traps. Later, Nanami's mother, Kyodo Momoe, had been discovered dead, thought to have fallen from the tower. While investigating both cases, Haibara disappears, and the others also discover two secret entrances.

The Detective Boys meet Nanami Kyoudou, whose grandfather, Seitarou Kyoudou is the one who built "The Black Tower", rumored to have no entrance and treasure hidden within. Later, they visit her house, where Nanami Kyoudou's mother, Momoe Kyoudou is apparently pushed off of the Black Tower.

Momoe Kyoudou's body is found near the tower after her scream. Did she fall from the tower or did someone push her?

The Detective Boys, now even more determined to find an entrance, search the house, which is filled with different illusions. Then, Ayumi and Haibara needs to use the restroom. But after Haibara tells Ayumi to go ahead, she accidentally falls through a secret passageway hidden behind a mirror in the bathroom. Ayumi immediately alerts the boys about Haibara's disappearance, who begin investigating the restroom; consequently, Conan notices that there's wind coming from the mirror, but can't gain access into the passageway behind it. Mitsuhiko alerts Conan that there's a storeroom next door, so convinced that there's another entrance, the Detective Boys run next door to search the storeroom. There, they discover two mirrors: a big one connected to the wall (though appears to be leaning against it) and a smaller one sitting on a desk. While checking the smaller mirror, Ayumi notices that it is covered with the same heavy perfume Momoe Kyoudou was wearing, accidentally flips the mirror, and suddenly, the big mirror Conan was investigating slides down to reveal an entrance covered with masking tape. Through a small argument, Mitsuhiko and Genta accidentally fall through the passageway, leaving Conan and Ayumi alone. Conan asks Ayumi to stay, but she is determined to go with him to find Haibara, so holding hands, they go through the masking tape together.

Banba proclaims innocence and reveals the culprit is most likely Tooru Amuro, their waiter who has secretly met with Kamon. Tooru explains he was hired by Kamon to investigate Banba and see if he was having an affair; To attest to his alibi, Amuro reveals Banba also hired a detective to follow Kamon for the same reasons. The detective confirms Amuro's identity and leaves Banba as the main suspect. Conan investigates, finds out that Kamon was making secret phone calls, and learns from Amuro that she was disturbed to discover Banba and her were orphaned by the same hotel fire.

Scenario: Officer Chiba is asked to help a woman who feels she is being stalked, but after the supposed stalker is found dead in her home. It is suspected she murdered him, and Conan have to uncover the truth behind the crime scene.

On a rainy night at the Mouri Detective Agency, Detective Chiba arrives and begs Kogoro for help. He wants Kogoro to help him to find a woman that he believes is in danger.

Chiba swiftly explains that recently, he's been seeing a woman at the Ikitsuke Café. The woman named Mio Ashida said she felt like something dangerous will occur. She gave him threatening letters she had received from someone who had recently been released from prison. When questioned, it was revealed that they had been coming for nearly a year and that she had changed jobs and moved because she was afraid of them stalking her. However, recently, she felt she was being watched, thus prompting her to tell Chiba. He had said that if she saw the person, or anyone suspicious, she must tell him immediately. However, when Chiba went to the restroom, Mio left. Concerned, Chiba questioned the owner who said the customer left, and seemed upset or afraid. As Chiba went to follow her, he grabbed an umbrella and realized that he had hers, meaning that in her rush, she had grabbed his.

When Chiba was about to cross the street, a red car came and Chiba quickly got out of the way. He saw a suspicious person wearing a hat and sunglasses in the driver's seat. Chiba felt that it wasn't careless driving, but rather an attempt on his life, and that the driver mistook him for the woman due to having her umbrella. Since Chiba did not get her address before she left, he was not able to find her right away, and due to no evidence, he was unable to do it through the police headquarters, which is why Chiba came to Mouri Detective Agency for help. Since she came to the cafe often, Conan proposed the idea of searching nearby areas, as she likely lived near by.

So now, Conan, Ran, Kogoro, and Detective Chiba went all around the places to search for Mio. Meanwhile at an apartment, a student named Takuya Murakami is getting annoyed by someone else on the second floor due to them playing the TV at a high volume. Suddenly, Murakami heard a loud thump from above and a scream from a woman.

Detective Chiba receives a call while searching for Mio. The call was that a young woman was involved in a murder case at a nearby apartment. When Chiba, Kogoro, Ran, and Conan went to the apartment, they found a red car which was the one that almost ran over Chiba. They went inside and went to the second floor of the apartment. Inspector Megure and Detective Takagi are also there. It seems they found the dead body.

In the room, a man was on the floor, dead from blunt force trauma to the head. Beside him was the hat and sunglasses Chiba saw on the driver that nearly ran him over, and on the other side of the room, was the woman, Mio. At first relieved to find her alive, Takagi said that she's the perpetrator, much to Chiba's horror. Both groups share their story, with Takagi finally explaining what happened.

The incident occurred forty minutes ago, at 9:30 PM. Murakami that lives below said that he heard the commotion, so he came to check. He discovered the dead body and Mio, who was next to the corpse. Murakami then called the police. The victim was a man named Yoshizumi Karashima and was released from prison three days ago, after being kept there for a year due to a traffic accident. During the incident, there was a drunk driver that broke the guard rail and fell into the lake. Of the two, the driver died, while the other only received light injuries, but were sentenced one year of prison for allowing a drunk to drive. The driver had been Mio's brother, and the deceased, Karashima, was the other one in the car.

Mio thinks it's a lie that her brother was driving due to a past incident her brother had with drunk driving that made him swear to not ever go behind the wheel again. She believes that the person that was really driving was Karashima. The driver that died was indeed her older brother, Toshiaki Ashida. Karashima said that her brother was the one driving, but she could not believe his story. She filed serveral objections to the court, but all of them were rejected. Chiba has no doubt that it must be revenge, so he showed the letters written by Karashima when he was in prison. All of the letters said that he would meet Mio after being released from prison.

Mio moved to the apartment where she won't be stalked by Karashima. In fact, the move was so recent that all the stuff in the her apartment hasn't even been used yet. She even stated that she only came to sleep due to how scared she was. When she came home, the lights were on, and the door was unlocked. She didn't think anybody would be inside. When she opened the door, Karashima suddenly grabbed her and went about to stab her, with Mio resisting, using her umbrella as a means of defense. They moved to the living room while struggling and Mio pushed him to the wall where the vase hit on his head. Conan sees the injury on the back of Karashima's head, but also noticeed that there's another injury above his nose. Chiba thinks he must've got hurt while struggling as there was blood on the corner of the TV desk.

It seemed like a clear case of self-defense, but Conan was starting to find holes in the story he heard. He had found the umbrella container that still has a little puddle of water in it, Karashima's shoes were wet as well. After confirming that the rain started at seven that evening, Conan went downstairs of the apartment to visit Murakami for questioning. The witness informed Conan that he heard the tv around six, and that it turned off at about nine thirty, before being swiftly followed by the thud and screams. Afterwards, Conan went outside to check the red car and he figured out the truth behind the case.

Scenario: Anblick Tateno and Kogoro found a dead body in the house and a devious old man was murdered in cold blood, leaving only the letter "k" as a message. And there were two suspect who might be true culprit of the murder in cold blood, and both of them had a "K" letter in each name.

The security guard named Zenkichi Ooka is threatening two people to keep giving money to him. At night, Conan, Ran, and Kogoro came from the store after they had delicious spring rolls. They found the policeman named Sumio Tateno who's talking to the woman. Tateno works at the Beika 5th district police box. He is diligent, nice, and good with people. Even the neighbors strongly trust him. Soon, he will be transferred to the criminal division. The woman named Toshiko Hanazawa is trying to tell Tateno and Kogoro about that she saw somebody who is always going through the garbage. Suddenly, the woman with the shock expression came out of the house with the little amount of blood on her. She said she found someone's dead inside. Conan, Kogoro, and Tateno went inside and found Zenkichi Ooka dead.

There's a bloody knife on the floor and the cut marks on Ooka's hands. There's also blood on the cushion with the hole in it. The culprit must've used the cushion and stabbed through it. One more is that Ooka left a dying message, "K". The fake tooth in Ooka's mouth is missing. Ooka's cellphone is broken.

Inspector Megure and Detective Takagi had arrived and Officer Tateno reports everything to them. Inspector Megure asks the woman who found the dead body about what her name is and the woman reveals her name, Kiwako Kaitani. It seems that her initial is K. Hanazawa said she saw the whole thing. She was talking to her friend in front of her house. She believes it was at past 6, Ooka came home. Then soon after, a man visited to Ooka's house. Hanazawa thinks it's a 50 year old salaryman. He left gloomily after about ten minutes. After twenty minutes, Kaitani came. Hanazawa's friend left and Officer Tateno came. Hanazawa and Tateno were talking for about five minutes and until sudden, that's when Conan, Ran, and Kogoro came. Finally, Kaitani came out of Ooka's house. That's the whole story from Hanazawa. Kaitani thinks the man is the one who's responsible for Ooka's death. Inspector Megure and the police are going to look for the man who's involved with Ooka. Suddenly, Hanazawa found the man that's in the middle of the crowd. The man ran from the crowd until Kogoro and Tateno went after him. They caught the man. Inspector Megure asks the man's name and the man reveals his name, Katsutoshi Kusaka. It seems that his initial is K also.

At the police station, Takagi is questioning Kusaka about the knife belonging to him. Kusaka confirms it, but he said he didn't kill Ooka. The reason why he visits to Ooka's house is because he's being blackmailed. It happened seven years ago: Kusaka got addicted to gambling in mahjong. The police started arresting the customers including Kusaka. Ooka was one of the customers also, but luckily got away. After that, Kusaka turned into a new leaf. He began to work diligently. Two years ago, Kusaka met Ooka at the new supermarket ever since he demanded money. That's when the blackmailing starts. Kusaka's daughter got engaged in six months ago. Ever since then, the demand escalated. A few days ago, when Kusaka is having a dinner with the other family at Shiomi Hotel, Ooka appeared. Ooka said he had police work nearby. At that rate, he was going to ruin the marriage. When Kusaka thinks about it, he couldn't take it anymore. Takagi asked Kusaka about today's visit to hand him over money. Kusaka answered that it's usually when he get his paycheck, but Ooka said he was going to a funeral, so he suddenly demanded money for traveling fees. He brought a knife in replace of money. However, when Ooka and Kusaka were struggling, Kusaka cut his hands. When Kusaka saw the blood splatter, he got frightened. He threw the knife away and ran away. That's everything from Kusaka and he thinks Kaitani is the one who killed Ooka when she came to visit Ooka after him.

Next, Sato is questioning Kaitani about the harmful drugs that weakens the human body which was found in Kaitani's bag. Sato asked Kaitani that she's a pharmacist and steals ingredients from where she works. Kaitani angrily accuses Ooka that it was his fault. Kaitani is graduating this year but couldn't find a career. She became childish and began to shoplift. Ooka caught her and will keep quiet if Kaitani hands over the money. Ever since then, every month, after getting employed, Ooka demanded Kaitani to pay double. He would go where Kaitani works to get drugs. When she thinks about her whole life being blackmailed, she couldn't take it anymore. That's why she wished Ooka would get a serious disease. Sato asked Kaitani about today's visit to hand Ooka over money. Kaitani answered it's usually at the beginning of the month, but Ooka said his friend died so he suddenly demanded Kaitani to pay for the hotel fees. All she did was to break Ooka's cellphone. It had proof that she was shoplifting. She still thinks Kusaka is the one who killed Ooka when he came to visit him before her.

Inspector Megure can't believe the victim was blackmailing Kaitani and Kusaka. According to Kusaka, Ooka was into overseas casino. The blackmailing was to save money and use money for casino spending. Conan asked about the calendar from Ooka's house. Conan sees things written on the calendar and it's some sort of a code. Kogoro tells Tateno that his police cap is dirty. Tateno took his cap off, cleaned it off, and put it back on. Megure asked Tateno that they weren't any suspicious person inside and all the doors and windows were locked from the inside. Tateno confirms it and in other words, only Kaitani and Kusaka were the only ones able to enter and leave. The culprit could be one of those two.

Conan thinks it still doesn't make any sense. Conan asks about the missing fake tooth and Takagi confirms it was still not found at the crime scene. If it came out during the struggle with the culprit, it might be on the culprit. It was not found on Kaitani and Kusaka also. Takagi thinks Kusaka could have thrown away since he was the only one who left the crime scene. Megure orders Takagi and Sato to watch over Kaitani and Kusaka. He also orders Chiba to investigate Ooka's notebook. The notebook might have more blackmailed victims. Conan notices the word, "Maruoka" on the notebook. When Conan checks the calendar, he knows what it means. He still wonders what "K" means. Until sudden, Conan found some ants on the ground and finally solved the whole mystery.

Scenario: The Detective Boys find a strange map on the back of a piece of paper, with many 'x's at different locations. As the group visits each house, they are able to figure about the meaning behind the 'x's, as well as the identity of the murderer. At night, Hiroshi Yagisawa and his dog Coeur, are taking a walk in Beika Street. Coeur sense something strange so Coeur is showing Yagisawa that she found the dead body in underground passageway.

On Saturday, Conan, Haibara, and the Detective Boys are having a good time walking along together. Genta is eating grape-flavored candy. Mitsuhiko found the paper in the middle of the street. It's a paper from the Sakae cleaning shop. When Mitsuhiko unfolds the paper, he found a map. Genta thinks it's a treasure map but it's not. Mitsuhiko thinks it's a map of targets for burglary because he remembers that it's been recently been occurring around Beika district. Conan thinks it's ridiculous but Ayumi and Genta think so too. So the Detective Boys are going to follow the map with every X mark locations around the people's houses.

The Detective Boys went to the Ohga household and asked the Ohga family about burglary in their home but they felt relief when the Ohga family confirm there's no burglary. Norifumi Ohga is curious if the paper is really the map of targets for burglary and Mitsuhiko thinks the probability is high. Mitsuhiko asked Norifumi is there anything suspicious going on or any strange incidents. Norifumi said no that he didn't see anything suspicious. Conan asked Norifumi does he know any other people's homes and Norifumi doesn't know also. Norifumi's wife, Misako took the map from Norifumi's possession and looked. She thinks it's creepy that why is their house in the map. Until sudden, she scolds at Genta not to step on the grass. Norifumi is about to smoke a cigarette but Misako tells Norifumi not to smoke in front of their child, Tomoya. Conan asks Norifumi what's his job and Norifumi reveals he's an architect.

Next, the Detective Boys went to visit to the woman named Tamae Eguchi who's smoking a cigarette. Mitsuhiko asks her that if she has any idea about other's homes by showing her the map. Eguchi doesn't know and there's no burglary in her house either. Also she didn't see anything suspicious. Conan asks what's her job and Eguchi reveals that she's an illustrator.

The Detective Boys visit to the old lady named Shizuko Fujiki and Mitsuhiko asked the same question like from other people's houses. Same answer from Shizuko and no burglary in her house. Suddenly, Shizuko's son named Koichi Fujiki appears. He got the cigarette box from the shopping bag and puts it in his back pocket. Koichi asked Shizuko what's wrong and Shizuko tells Koichi that the kids found the map of targeting for burglary and shows it to him. The Detective Boys asked him about anything suspicious going on and Koichi doesn't know also. Conan asks what's his job and Koichi reveals he's a salaryman.

The Detective Boys went to the Kohzuki household according to the map but found the police car right in front of it. They think that someone has already burglarize the Kohzuki household. Conan asked the man that did something happen at the Kohzuki household and the man reveals that Kohzuki died. Around last night at around 10, he was found near Beika Street, at the bottom of the stairs leading to the underground passageway. He was bleeding from his head and lying on the floor. Conan wonders if it's an accident or murder. Conan sees at the front of Kohzuki household that there's water bottles. Suddenly, the police came out of the Kohzuki household and tells the woman to report anything when she notice anything. The woman's name is Sawako. She is Kohzuki's daughter. Mitsuhiko thought about something that if the map isn't just burglary but a case involved with Kohzuki. Ayumi asked Mitsuhiko about what does he mean by that. Mitsuhiko thinks that the one who wrote the map is the culprit and still pursuing the other's homes. The Detective Boys are about to report it to the police about the map but the police are very busy so they just went in the police car and drives away to the crime scene. Conan is about to check the crime scene so he told Haibara and the Detective Boys to wait for him at the library.

When Conan arrives at Beika Street, he heard that the crime scene investigator told the police that Kohzuki's right hand smells like tobacco, but there was no tobacco around him when he's lying on the floor. The police were told by Sawako that he didn't smoke.

At outside of the library, the Detective Boys are waiting for Conan. After that, they're about to get some ice cream from the vending machine in the library but Haibara will just stay outside waiting for Conan. When Yagisawa and Coeur appear, Haibara is smiling at Coeur and felt like she wants to see Coeur closer. Suddenly, the culprit steals the map from the table while Haibara isn't looking.

Conan arrives at the library but suddenly the Detective Boys are looking for the missing map after they were inside the library buying ice cream. Conan met Yagisawa and his dog Coeur again. Conan pets Coeur's head by saying, "Coeur, have you been doing well?" Haibara asked Conan that does he know Coeur and Yagisawa. Conan knows them alright because thanks to Coeur who helped Conan solved the murder case last time. Mitsuhiko tells Conan that he can't find the missing map. Yagisawa reveals he's the one who made the map with the X marks on it. The map is actually Coeur's walking course that Yagisawa's friend uses when Yagisawa can't walk Coeur. The X marks on houses is to watch out for. She dropped it while walking the dog. The first house was Ohga's house when Misako gets angry so easily. Yagisawa and Coeur got yelled by Misako when Coeur touched the grass. The second house where Eguchi lives, Eguchi sprays pesticide on her roses, so Yagisawa thought it would be best to stay away. Eguchi uses fertilzer so dogs like to get close because they like that smell. Then the third house where Shizuko Fujiki lives is that she likes to keep things neat and clean. She dislikes dog urine. Conan noticed that she sprayed water in front of houses and poles while the Detective Boys are questioning Shizuko. Also for Kohzuki's place, Kohzuki dislikes dog urine too. He was frequently cleaning the front of his house. One time, when Coeur urinate in front of Kohzuki's house. Kohzuki ran after Coeur and Yagisawa with the broom. That's why they are lot of water bottles in front of his house but it's actually cat repellent. It seems Mitsuhiko's theory was wrong all along. About the worthless map, somebody with some purpose stole it. That person that stole the map must be the murderer of Kohzuki. The map that Mitsuhiko found that was mistakenly thought was related to Kohzuki's murder was stolen because the culprit thought it would be bad if the police gets it. Among the homes that Conan, Haibara, and the Detective Boys visited are one of them is the culprit. The key to solving the mystery is tobacco. The one who smoked tobacco are Norifumi Ohga, Tamae Eguchi, and Kohichi Fujiki. Yagisawa mentions about Kohzuki that found the cigarette that has two blue lines on it. After the conversation, Conan and the group are going to gather information around the houses. Conan asked Yagisawa to draw another map and Yagisawa understands.

After the group investigates, they couldn't find the cigarette that was been thrown away. While they are looking to the map, Ohga's architect office is in front of the Beika Station so always walk home. He leaves home at around 7-8 and comes home at varied time so it seems like yesterday was at around 10. Eguchi works four times a week. From evening, she has a part time job at the club. Fujiki also goes home by going to Beika Station. He leaves his house at 7 every morning. All three of them has the possibility of throwing away a cigarette butt in front of Kohzuki's house. When Conan asked the underground passageway guard, as he suspected, it's the same brand of cigarette that's lying on the floor which is the "blue line". Last night around 10, one of those three went through the underground passageway, throw away the cigarette butt on the floor, then Kohzuki witnessed it and a quarrel occurred. That's why they weren't any cigarette butts on the floor. Suddenly, Conan just thought of something about the water pathway. Conan and the group are going there.

Episode 663: The Mountain Beetle Chase

Scenario: The Detective Boys wish to capture a few beetles to bring to school, and as a result, visit Agasa's old friend in the mountains. The Detective Boys manage to find a bunch of beetles at night, but return to find Namatame injured. Namatame's last words are "Miyama Stag Beetle" before losing consciousness.

At Teitan Elementary School, Genta and Mitsuhiko see a student showing off because he owns a beetle and become jealous. At Agasa's house, Genta and Mitsuhiko tell Agasa about getting the rhinoceros beetle and Agasa knows a place to get those. Agasa's old friend lives in Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture, so Conan, Haibara, Agasa, and the Detective Boys go on a trip. When they arrive, they meet Agasa's old friend named Ryutarou Namatame. Later, Genta is thirsty so they all go to the shop called "Michi no eki" where they sell food and drinks. Namatame find a guy named Kei Yabe who's eating ramen while getting little upset about Yabe telling Namatame a lie that he's at playing pachinko. Yabe tells Namatame that it's not what it looks like.

Genta and Mitsuhiko find the bug cages filled with all kinds of beetles and they are impressed about it until suddenly, the man named Shuhei Ikeda tell Genta and Mitsuhiko not to touch it. He tells them that the Tocoro Department is coming to retrieve them. Namatame tells Ikeda that the kids want to look at them and Ikeda doesn't have to make a big fuss about it. After that, Namatame tells the Detective Boys when Ikeda was a child, he was very stingy. At Namatame's house, the Detective Boys are having watermelon for snack. They have made a plan to go into the forest and catch some beetles. In the forest, Conan puts slices of stinky bananas mixed with sake into the small bags each Detective Boy carries and ties the bags to the branches of the tree so later the beetles will be attracted to it at night. When Conan, Haibara, and the Detective Boys find the truck, Genta looks inside and Yabe just appears from under the truck. Yabe angrily asks Genta what he's looking at. Genta didn't do anything wrong so Yabe tells the kids to go away.

That night at Namatame's house, Namatame and Agasa are having a little conversation about Agasa's inventions. At precisely 10:00 pm, the Detective Boys are going back to the forest where they made baits to attract the beetles. Namatame warns the kids that there could be snakes in the forest so Agasa will go with them. In the forest, they are lot of beetles on the bags attached to the tree branches, and the Detective Boys are very happy catching them. Going back to the house, they spot Ikeda walking on the streets moaning about Namatame. When Conan, Haibara, Agasa, and the Detective Boys arrive at Namatame's house, they find Namatame lying on the floor, injured.

Conan tells Namatame to get a hold of himself and suddenly, Namatame says, "Miyama stag beetle" before losing consciousness. When Haibara is about to call an ambulance with her cellphone, she notices that the Buddha statue Ryutarou had is gone.

Haibara doesn't have a signal range on her cellphone so she goes outside to look for one. Conan finds a little amount of hair on Namatame's back and wonders what did Namatame mean by "Miyama stag beetle". Namatame is taken to the hospital while unconscious. The police arrive, and the investigation begins. Conan and the Detective Boys report everything they've seen, and also the Buddha statue that goes missing. The police mention about the missing Buddha statue case that has occurred at Kenkan Temple. Conan gives a little amount of hair he found on Namatame to the police so they can give it to the forensics to exam it. Agasa is still wondering what did Namatame mean "Miyama stag beetle", because, of course, the culprit can't be the beetle. Haibara mentions that she and the Detective Boys saw Ikeda while walking in the forest. Genta now knows that he has seen the beetles at Michi no eki.

The police finds Ikeda and they want him for questioning. The police ask Ikeda where he was at 12:00 am. Mitsuhiko says that he was walking on the streets angrily saying, "That Ryutarou! I can't let my guard down!" The reason why Ikeda was saying that is because when he went watering the rice garden, the water was turned off. The only one who did that was Namatame. That's why he wanted to teach him a lesson when he would see him again. He says that he would haver never tried to kill Namatame. Conan asks Ikeda about the Buddha statue. Ikeda remembers there was a dirty one and he has a clue. He mentions about Kei Yabe who had lots of tools in his truck when being very sneaky. That made Ikeda suspicious. Genta remembers Yabe is wearing a Miyama stag beetle shirt.

The police visit Yabe because they want him for questioning. They ask Yabe where he was at 12:00 am. Yabe says he was at home, alone. Ikeda calls Yabe a liar because when Ikeda was watering the rice field and when he was on his way to his home, he visited Yabe's house and his truck wasn't there. The police asks Yabe if he did enter Namatame's house, hurt him, and steal the Buddha statue. Yabe denies it. Conan asks Officer Iwanaga about what the little amount of hair was and Officer Iwanaga says it was a dog's hair.

Conan, Haibara, and Agasa went back to Michi no eki to find some clues. Conan asked anybody if they remember Conan and the group visiting to Michi no eki. Nobody can't remembered except one person who sells plants. The plant owner remembered they were some couples buying the potted flower. The plant owner showed the potted flower to Conan and he finally solved the whole mystery.
