After running to a sound they thought was the cry of the insect man, the Detective Boys find out that it is only the sound of bulldozers working the land in a forest. The workers get angry and chase them until they are able to go back in town. There, they meet two kids dressed as insects who tell them what is happening in the village currently. Using a picture-story show, they explain that there was once a government official that went in Kuronosu to plan the construction of public baths and casinos in the forest land for the villagers. Unfortunately, the mayor opposed the project as the forest had cultural and historical value since it was the legendary nature-loving Princess Gaga's supposed resting place. The mayor devised a plan and kicked out the official from the village and then planned to open an insect man ranch in the forest instead. Since villagers opposed, the mayor retired a year ago and bought the forest with his own money and moved bulldozers over the place. The mayor then died from a heart attack before being able to put his plan in action. The villagers found out that the whole idea of an insect man ranch was a fraud and a scheme of his to dig up Gaga's grave and sell its treasures.

A year ago, Murano planned to open an insect man ranch although it was all a scheme so he could dig up Princess Gaga's treasures and appropriate them for himself.

The adults of the village were all angry and decided to try to find the treasure by using the map of the forest he had left in his pocket while the children remained in town. While the boys prepare ramen for the Detective Boys, Conan investigates by himself the backstory of the village and tries to find out why the mayor did that. While investigating, Conan goes to the post office, the medical clinic and the town hall to gather more information but there is still one piece of the puzzle missing. On the other hand, the Detective Boys dressed themselves as insect men and headed to Gaga Shrine's forest where the forest is. They get themselves in trouble as they are cornered by the construction workers. Conan, after hearing them yelling, runs to help them but they are forced to climb to a three to escape. On top of the three, Conan figures out the truth.

The adult working in the forest saw the Detective Boys and tried to kidnap them since they were in the way.

Scenario: Conan, Mitsuhiko, Ayumi, and Haibara go to visit Motota, who was taken to Yonehana Central Hospital. When Motota talks with Kikuhide Otsubo, an unemployed person who was also involved in the accident, and Sumito Kagura, a member of the theater company, Yamago Kawauchi, an office worker, and Haruka Ibe, a member of the theater company, come to visit Kagura. Ayumi and Haibara follow Kagura's action the entire day, but unable to find Kagura being anything more than a simple lucky-going guy. Genta and Mitsuhiko check out the cafe that Kagura's co-worker and boss hang out and discovers that Kagura did have sufficient motive to cause this incident due to his co-workers telling that he was hoping for "more tasty collateral damage". Meanwhile, Conan uses the Otsubo's address he got from the nurse to locate his apartment and obtains his information from Otsuhu's neighbor Shiro Yasukawa as he is unable to find Otsubo himself, and discovers that Otsubo is a web influencer who is fixed on obtaining info related to the unlucky Kagura. Because of the conflicting information, the group is unable to prove that Kagura is the mastermind behind the incident, and decides to postpone the investigation until tomorrow, which they will interrogate Otsubo as they have suspected him of witnessing the culprit being the fake bomb threat.

However, that night, Otsubo is murdered in a park after threatening to expose the culprit's crime.

Shinichi has still trouble finding who the "Kudo Family Freak" blog owner is and how to stop the media from blowing up. Ran tries to figure out what happened and why Shinichi is considered a ghost. Heiji tells Conan he'll try to settle things on his side.

The Detective Boys finally arrive to a bathroom but the only arrow points to the shower with nothing inside it. They convince Haibara to ask for Conan's help, and the latter tells them to give some water to the drinking bird next to the arrow. The Detective Boys give the drinking bird a glass of water and the bird starts to constantly dip its beak into it. They then notice the glass's water has reversed the arrow's direction, which now points towards the opposite direction of the bathroom. Another room which the kids fail to open. Wakita rings the doorbell at Professor Agasa's door and asks what the fuss in front of their neighbours' house is all about since he can't do his deliveries.

Conan tells the Detective Boys that the door isn't locked but the difference in temperatures between the cold corridor and the warm room where Maria is, creates a pressure gradient that can be dispelled by pushing the door strongly and opening a vent. Maria is indeed inside, asleep. She had come to watch some videos of her grandparents, but was then unable to open the door to leave the room, and concluded that she had to watch every video for the door to open.

As the room was accidentally airtight, Maria likely fell asleep due to heightened carbon dioxyde from her own breathing, which would have worsened if the Detective Boys hadn't found her in time.

After the school trip, the case that occurred back at Kyoto attracts global attention, and someone claims that the apparently dead Shinichi Kudo helped to solve the case. Hyoue Kuroda, Kanenori Wakita, and Rumi Wakasa (who is revealed to have access to the APTX victim list) all take notice of this.

Maria Higashio hasn't come to school today and Kobayashi sends Haibara and the Detective Boys to her home to see how she's doing and if everything's all right.

While Kogoro grabbed Conan to teach him a lesson, Takagi fell on the sidewalk and pushed the great detective by accident, which made him lose grip of Conan. Conan then fell into the river but hopefully was saved by Maki Ohara, who jumped into the river to save him.

Three months ago, a man attacked a lady in a park by pushing her off the stairs. While the police ruled it as an accident, the family of the victim still believes the man exists.
